Some days ago I listened to the "Stranded" album. And I thought by myself: What a shame it is that the average (German) radio station plays Avalon, More Than This, Oh Yeah and Dance Away. Their late single records ... but there is so much left on the albums, especially their first ones. Take "Amazona". A great piece of music! Ferry's sinister and ironic voice with his staccato piano, Phil's guitar work, the complicated timing (14/4 + 3/4 + 2/4 !!), four different parts in one song ... that was art AND progressive rock at its best! So far away from today's radio habits but so endlessly divine.

Do you have any other gems you'd like to mention, dear Roxy Music experts?

Serenade. I love that tune! And A Really Good Time. And Ferry needs to play Beauty Queen.

folks, I've always had a soft spot for 'Three and Nine'. Never seems to get a mention.

Not forgetting (but I did) 'A really good time' , superb.

Later years: Stronger through the years, spin me round, ain't that so, manifesto (I think this is underrated by some, not all), no strange delight
Earlier years: most of the material is highly rated and not forgotten...however some seem to get overlooked: strictly confidential, the Bob, amazona, serenade, three and nine. Beauty queen is sorely missed from live performances over the years. I'd rather like to hear a Bitters End too

In The Midnight Hour, Flesh + Blood, Over You, No Strange Delight, Grey Lagoons, Would You Believe?, Triptych, If It Takes All Night.

Plus; ain`t there a demo with a take on The Doors` "Light My Fire" lying around somewhere?

For Windswept it has to be the masterpiece that is 2HB.
Any song that starts with the lines; "Oh I was moved by your screen dream. Celluloid pictures are living," deserves to be forever immortalised in the tower of song.
When I first heard it at Redcar Jazz club in '72, it immediately conjured up images of Hollywood glamour and smokey nightclubs. I couldn't make out the lyrics and I didn't buy the album until after the gig but the song immediately had the hair standing up on the back of my neck and it transported me straight to 'Roxy world'.
When I got my hands on the LP and the lyrics I just played it and played it and I couldn't believe the genius of the composition.
The words; "Here's looking at you kid. Hard to forget" haunt me and forever have a double meaning. Bogie was my favourite uncle's hero and it gives the song extra resonance.
Happily the boys played it in Sydney on their last tour with the most magnificent movie backdrop playing behind.
Hopefully Geordie's favourite son will play it again soon!
