Good Early Evening to You all! This is Lori. I have been reading and following everything that has been posted Here about the discussion of Bryan Ferry and His New band's performance on The West Holt's Stage at This Year's Glastonbury Music And Art's Festival. I have some thoughts to share that may very controversial and may cause some of You to be angry with Me. However I feel I have to share Them. I feel that Bryan should have perhaps made it very clear from the very start of Roxy Music's career That Roxy Music may not have been a Life-Time commitment asperation for Him As not every band or Group is desiged or built to last for 50 Odd Years ala The Rolling Stones and the very small others Who have. This may have made it much easier for Fans to have had such a strong Mental and Emotional attachment to Roxy Music and may not have been lead into a false sense of security about the Band as well. Believe Me I know what it is like to Be A Die-Hard Fan of any thing in The Performing Art's Profession, You as Fan desperately wants " The Glory Days " as it were to last for Forever. Deep Down inside. I as a Fan have major problems bring My-Self to let Go of The Past to learn to accept The Present and what may be of a very small portion of the Future with the Where I am as Fan of several Things Out-Side of This One. What Bryan can do now is FINALLY admit and come clean to all Fans around the World That Roxy Music as Everyone KNEW it was not going to be Where He was going to be at as a Artist. Yes Do I think that There SHOULD have been NEW Roxy Music Albums all along to Co-Inside with all of Bryan's ensuing Solo Albums after Avalon? YES! However Bryan's Solo Career Won the Day. Just like it was with BOTH Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins with Genesis. Sometimes Solo Careers outlast and take precedence and priority over Band/Group careers. Just ask Sting about this with His Own band/Group, The Police Same thing Here. Sometimes You get One or Two Musicians in A band Who are just too talented and everything to Be in A Band/Group for between the long haul and A Life-Time commitment thing. Do I think that Roxy Music would have made the rest of the 1980's A real interesting place if Bryan kept them going? You bet I do! However for some reasons know only to Him-Self Deep Down It was not to be. Do I want the REAL Roxy Music back up and running and firing on all Cylanders again? You Bet! It will at this point take a Major epiphany from Bryan to make SOMETHING snap from Deep within to DO it! Now I very much HOPE that I have not angered and incurred the wrath of the most experinced Veteran posters of this great Cyber Hall Of Justice with These thoughts and observations, I am trying really hard to be a Good Member of The Family Here. Yours Truly, Lori.

Good Evening to all fellow Roxyologists and Ferryistas, This is Lori. I want to Thank You DCJ for Your kind response/answer/reply First Hand of all. I am a fellow resident of Pennsylvania My-Self! Send of all allow Me to give all Who post Here a example of what I was refering to as A Die Hard Fan of A other Band. One of the most HATED and DERIDED Bands of The Modern Music Era. Yes that would Be none other than DURAN DURAN I have been on the same level of a Mental and Emotional Heart-Break of A Journey with Them as many of You have been with Roxy Music Duran Duran for all intents and purposes SHOULD have DIED many Years ago. With all the trials and tribulations that They have gone through. With the loss of @ Original Members in circa 1985-86. That being Original Drummer Roger Taylor and Original Lead Guitarist Andy Taylor The band will and was FOREVER changed and from that point to the Present was NEVER the same. Then You Add that fact that from between 1995 and 2001 Duran Duran LOST yet again another Original Member, Their Co-Founder and severely Under-Rated Original Bass Guitarist John Taylor. The it was Up to Original Key-Boardist and Synthezerist Nick Rhodes and Lead Vocalist and principal Lyricisist in Sion Le Bon to keep the Flame burning for Duran Duran in it's diminished capacity until the land-mark 1978-01 Reunion Tour that saw all 3 Taylors return to the Ban. What followed was The Astronaut Album and Tour. of 2004-2006. In 2006 Andy Taylor left Duran Duran again. This left only 4 Out of the Original 5 Members to keep The Band going post 2006. They now have A extremely talented Session Lead Guitarist in Dominick Brown to fill in for Andy. Now what does this have to with Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry You may ask? Well it is quite simple really Do I want the Glorious Halcyon and Heady Days with Duran Duran back from 1980-1985? YES SIRE REE! However It won't ever be coming back. So I as Fan have to ACCEPT The Duran Duran of TODAY Minus Andy Taylor. I have to accept that Andy is GONE from the band and will NEVER return Dominick Is Who gets along with Them and NOW fits in with Them. I have been through H and back with Duran Duran, HOWEVER I am so very grateful that Duran Duran is still a ACTIVE and FUNCTIONING Band in whatever incarnation it has to take to continue to SURVIVE. So You may be able to say that Roxy music and Duran Duran have BOTH put Their respective Fan-Bases through H and back, however Duran Duran has kept plugging away. hey Duran Duran's Second Album Rio was Their Break-Out Album. It was also the most Roxy Musiic Centric Album of Their entire career up until the Arcadia So Red The Rose Solo Spin-Off Project was released in 1985-86. The other Solo Spin-Off Project Album of the same Time Period was The Power Station's First Album With the very respected Robert Palmer on Lead Vocals! Duran Duran's Rio Album was released in 1982-83. it was very Flesh And Blood influenced. Perhaps a little of Avalon was added too. Rio is now considered to be one of the BEST Classic Albums of the 1980's! Bryan Ferry is to a degree happy that other bands could LEARN something or a bunch of somethings from Him and Roxy Music. All Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry Solo Fans CAN and SHOULD be very GREATEFUL that Roxy Music and ALL of it's individual Members have had such a HUGE and impactual and influencial effect on and in the Annals of Music History! for without Roxy Music and Japan, There would NEVER have been Art-House or Alternative Rock Music as We KNOW it Today! the Bands that followed kept the Legacy ALIVE. Bryan Ferry may very well be a RELUCTANT and Self-Depricating Teacher, however He does give credit Where credit is due. I cannot in Good Faith as Fan blame Him for being very modest and humble Where praise and accolades are concerned. If other Musicians and Bands are and where able to LEARN from Him and Roxy Music things that where very worth while and beneficial to their careers, then that makes Bryan Ferry PLEASED and HAPPY on some level. So let's give Bryan Ferry a break, Here He's done much more for Music History than is realized at times. We SHOULD all be GREATEFUL for the Time He may have left! Love to all, Lori.

Cher Lori, I can't say I ever hated Duran Duran. I'm sure that they are all lovely people with very nice families. Simon Le Bon has a very attractive wife, seems like genuinely nice guy and was well on the way to becoming a decent sailor. It's just that musically, the band were and are only two up from The Bay City Rollers and unfortunately that's not very far up the hierarchy! a bien tôt, Windswept

There has been some kind of festival in UK, hasn't it? But the Bay City Rollers were absolutely trendy during my dance school days. A lot of Germans and Austrians believed they were South Tyrolians (Italians), because a badly pronounced "City Roller" has got a very similar pronunciation to "Südtiroler" (in their own Austrian dialect). Poor Scotsmen Ok, Monsieur Windswept, je comprends votre dégoût but I'd propose that Duran Duran were ... at least three or four up from BCR. I mean "Astronaut" was ok. And a band that names Roxy Music as their musical icon can't be that bad

But a couple of these ne'er-do-wells tried to destroy the career of Windswept's other hero, Robert Palmer (RIP) with their 'Power Station' nonsense. That was difficult to forgive! Desole, Windswept

Absolument d'accord, cher Monsieur Windswept, "Power Station" wasn't the highlight of our appreciated singer Robert Palmer (RIP) as "Tin Machine" can't be seen as David Bowie's musical heyday. But Robert Palmer as well as David Bowie have found their way out of these projects - heureusement. I would be glad to turn the corner ... didn't we start with Glastonbury? But I am unable to. So let's start another thing that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread: Ray Davies of The Kinks celebrated his 70th birthday. Did anybody congratulate him at VRM? I do, because I think he is one of the finest songwriters, wordsmiths and lyricists Britain has ever raised. Even if his brother Dave wouldn't agree

Just bought tickets for his new musical play, 'Waterloo Sunset'. 70! Where did it all go? a bien tôt Windswept
