It appears that the band is back to the configuration of this spring's Can't Let Go Tour. Spedding seems to have been added for Glastonbury as a one-off.

Windswept has now watched Glastonbury twice and this short set from Norway and has to confess to being a little numbed by the whole thing.
There is nothing a matter with the band per se. They are all fine musicians and our hero has them note perfect. But Roxologists are bound to make comparisons and as much as Windswept wants to love every incarnation, he is finding this particular line up lacking a certain je ne sais quoi.
Perhaps it's because everything since 1999 has been such an inspirational progression?
The ATGB band were simply sublime and represented a master class that played a complex set list comprising material from the album and great new arrangements of both Roxy and Ferry compositions in a way that just shivered your timbers and set a whole new level in modern music. Without doubt one of the most exciting fandangos ever experienced by Windswept.
Following this success, our hero took stalwarts from that line up (Good, Katz, Wilkins and Thornton) into what proved to be the best ever incarnation of Roxy. He also added some depth in the guitar department by bringing in Chris Spedding and the result was dynamite.
After that extravaganza, the 'Frantic' line up was again built on core members from ATGB but he supplemented Chris with the phenomenal Mick Green and put TGPT where he belongs. Together they gave a set list mostly pulled from of our hero's solo catalogue, some real punch.
And so it went with 'Dylanesque' and 'Olympia' all evolving to present the core set list in the best way with a couple of enhanced Roxy line-ups brought to life in-between .
Whilst the music was evolving, so was the staging with great dancers and video back drops being introduced to add some frisson to the great art.
This took us up to AEWBF when,with more members of the ATGB line up back into the fold we witnessed a Ferry nirvana. It was a career high in every dimension — musicianship, set list and stage craft and after this utopia, Windswept was hoping that our hero would take some time out, finish his new album, let TBFO loose on "Jazz Age 2" (God knows there should be one, that thing was a masterpiece), go to his tailors and assemble the cast for a 2015 extravaganza.
That didn't happen and as we know nearly all were let go for the 'Can't Let Go' tour and a new cast was hastily assembled.
Happily, Windswept chose the Dublin special (BFWS) for this years 'Ferry Fix' and although he loved it (mainly because of the arrangements and orchestra — not to mention an extraordinary performance from our hero) he couldn't help but think how much better it would have been with Colin Good tinkling the ivories (his piano is just at a different level — so strong and confident).
Now, back in it's raw format, Windswept has to say, this new band is really 'Roxy Lite' (™ DJC) and one can't help but wonder how our hero stays motivated after fronting last year's spectacular. He must feel it every time he takes to the stage.
Of course, all Ferry is good Ferry (except 'Is Your Love Strong Enough') and something amazing comes out of everything. This time it's the new bar room version of MTT but, that aside and without wishing to deprive DJC of his role as resident financial analyst, Windswept does think that this time around, le fric has a lot to do with the current state of play.
At the end of the day, this is a substantially smaller band than most of the aforementioned and unfortunately but not surprisingly, they sound it!
That said, with albums no longer generating the wonga, the temptation has to be to derive the maximum from touring and perhaps the return per show is much higher this way?
In any event, Winswept est un peu triste and will have to cheer himself up by listening to the Jazz Age.

WS2 you are only growing wiser as the days pass by...

It is interesting to consider what transpired such that BF undertook such a radical restructuring of his band with a new piano player and two new guitarists. The "Can't Let Go" Tour was more like the "They've Been Let Go" Tour and that has now apparently become the new normal.

So what is the motivation that keeps BF touring these days? Le Fric? To a degree, yes. But there is something else going on...
