Totally disagree with Windswept.

It was a right choice to refresh the band and its sound. TJA and that dreadful Dylan-album were boring and non-rocking orchestral manoeuvres (in the dark). In this setting Ferry and his band are sounding more direct and urgent. Entirely in the spirit how it all began. When Ferry in his early days was asked: what is Roxy Music?, he replied: "We are rock 'n roll!" And that's exactly what was missed over the last decades...

Well, I`ve just seen just about the whole clip. 52 minutes. PC problems prevented me from seeing it until now. The whole show lasted for a bit more than an hour, but my PC said stop. I guess I`ve spent all my bytes for this month.

Gee, it was raining! 6 out of 6 points is much. BF has been treated very kindly by Norwegian journos in recent years. But are they true fans? No doubt there is a high level of musicianship and a sound level that is gentle to the ears, compared to many bands at the same festival. The nostalgia factor produces a lot of goodwill. Plus they`re resting heavily on the fact that new generations are adding up. Thus this show comes across as a relief, I guess.

In a setting like this, the song “Oh Yeah” easily becomes the winner of the show. One journo called it “Roxy Music`s best song”.

The sax player is pure enjoyment. Never cutting corners, but she could have done more out of “If There Is Something”, at the end of the song, I think.

I`ve always thought that there is something restless about the whole show. It`s so choreographed, just like a movie.

“More Than This” at the piano was OK as a surprise, but I prefer the original version.

I'm not down on TJA and Dylanish quite so much (though they're some of my least favourite albums from the canon)....but otherwise, I'm completely with you Sentimental Fool. I hope BF changed the locks when Colin (god bless the gent) was shown the door.

Given that we all know the songs, the question becomes are they being arranged and played better this year than last?
Obviously, that will depend on the taste of the beholder but if Windswept takes "Casanova" as an example,for his palate the EWBF version was Lafon Montrachet Grand Cru, the BFWS take a beautiful Bollinger (sorry Smudge but you should have gone to the second night) and the current offering an undistinguished but quaffable house red.
That said, Roxology is a broad church, all styles are served here and if this new line up is built to please the festival crowd and bring some young aspiring Ferryistas into the, fold so be it.
Perhaps it was never designed for the more experienced, refined Roxologist's palate?
Windswept's appeal is on behalf of all those extremely elegant and discerning dilettantes out there is bring back Colin Good and Oliver Thompson!

Mais oui, Country Life was a great vintage but the song has aged with us and we can't go back to the womb!
Listen to the Country Life version and Tollwood back to back and you'll know what Windswept means or perhaps not — then he'll just have to suffer the rejection!
On the subject of Dylanesque, Windswept can't understand those ne'er-do-wells out there that decry this masterpiece. It contains best ever versions of 'Gates Of Eden' and 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' (sorry Bryan but best ever version of 'Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues'
belongs to Nina Simone).
Taken as a total, the whole LP is just magnificent and doubtless Bob felt very honoured.
That said, last year's rendition of 'Heaven's Door' took that song to a whole different level. The banjo, Oboe and Harmonica playing were just sublime and it serves as another testimony to restlessly moving forward.
Maybe Windswept just has to accept that this new story is more for the feather boa crowd?

I agree, the return of The Great Paul Thompson and Colin Good would be most welcome. Paul adds the beef to the works, and Colin has proved to be very integral part of Ferry's output and live act since they started working together in late 1998.

On the subject of 'Dylanesque' I find this to be a lovely solid album, great arrangements and production. A total joy to listen to.

And remember, all Ferry is good Ferry, except 'Cry, Cry, Cry'.

To me, Dylanesque carries a heavy burden because it was the project that Bf allowed himself to get diverted to just as Roxy was poised to finish recording the "New Album" after the Summer 2006 tour.

To be honest, I don't think Mr. Zimmerman cared one way or another if BF recorded Dylanesque except for the fact that it added (at least a little bit) to his song-writing royalty stream...

For me, pretty much all Roxy/BF is good Roxy/BF except for the dreadful Sirens hired to sing back-up for the Siren tour. Ugh.
