It's incredible where the time has gone. I bought this magazine when it came out in Bedford when I was fifteen!

Thank you so much for posting the Arena article. Ferry does it on the tables.
And he certainly looked his best in his late 40's.
And Mamouna is THE Ferry album for us true Ferryistas. There. I've said it. Discuss.
It's the essence of the man. And his music.

Debauched Dilettantes,
Windswept shares LondonPub's enthusiasm for this masterpiece albeit he feel's it has more in common with 'Boys & Girls' and 'Bette Noir' than 'Olympia'.
IWNSHO it's the third and concluding part of the noir trilogy. Had it been a movie it would certainly have been directed by Jean Luc Godard.
Like all things Ferry, the songs stand the test of time albeit new arrangements have enhanced some of the masterpieces beyond belief.
'The Only Face' is a classic example. The original is great but the version he performed on Jools Holland is off the richter scale. The addition of that whaling harmonica solo is just pure class. More haunting than that it's difficult to get — absolutely fabulous.
Likewise, 'NYC' & 'Chain Reaction' have never sounded better than when they were jazzed up by TBFO for last years tour. They were both unbelievable and a solid testimony to how strong these songs actually are.
Windswept would also love to see our hero rework 'Your Painted Smile' & '39 Steps'. The latter has a rhythm that would benefit greatly with a heavier arrangement.
All in all, a fabulous album and un tres grand mercy a Roxy for publishing the 'Arena' article (Windswept just loves her archives). Reading it made it feel like yesterday. He could remember every word!
a bien tôt,
Windswept
