Quote: There is really no need for personal attacks or hostile remarks. I couldn't agree more. I can't recall outbursts like this in the past and this sort of rudeness seems the very antithesis of what a forum discussing BF's work should be about. The forum is littered with references to other artists - how could anyone not stray into other areas from time to time, especially in the context of someone like BF who has worked with, influenced and been influenced by a cast of hundreds, if not thousands. In this regard citing Patrick Leonard seems entirely appropriate. Personally I'd rather read Windswept's erudite and often amusing deliberations any day over something that alludes to tell someone to 'F off'. Can we not just focus on the subject at hand and look forward to Anonmore, rather than engaging in personal insults? If not, I imagine that if this is the level to which debate slumps, it won't be long before the forum gets shut down.

If there are people on this forum whose contributions you do not wish to read there is always the possibility of putting them on your ignore-list: Lonely Dreamer

And I thought I was having a rough day at work!
Thanks for Windswept2, his broad shoulders and humour.
Sorry if some are offended or have such strong opinions but note the advice from Lonely Dreamer. It is well meant.
Let us not ruin a good thing here with VRM.
And let's look forward to Bryan's new LP!!

I haven't posted on this forum since certain people took control of the topics and filled them with copious amounts of detritus. I noticed lots of member's gradually stopped writing, just as I had. So, I guess I agree with SB and Mr R. And how dare LD (the hypocrate) condemn anyone for their comments when it wasn't so long ago that she herself had a pop at WS2 for constantly slagging off Bowie!

Over time, postings on the VRM have declined in number simply because there hasn't really been much to talk about in terms of current events related to Roxy Music...
Acrimony is never good, but at least it means there is something to be acrimonious about! Involvement in the VRM Forum is not compulsory. Participate if you want or simply find other outlets for your commentary. No problem. It's easy to skip over postings. Just don't read them. No problem...

I guess you mean hypocrite? Well, anyway, there is (until now) nobody on this forum I dislike or even "condemn" as you put it, and there is also nobody on this forum with whom I always agree at a 100% - in fact, sometimes a couple of hours later I don't even agree with myself anymore. I almost always enjoy reading Monsieur Windswepts contributions, and if I disagree with him, I'm not afraid of saying so, as I maybe did or did not concerning David Bowie - which I honestly hardly remember and I'm too lazy to look it up right now. But you can have different opinions and still be friends and respect each other. As far as I'm concerned this discussion is not about agreement or disagreement, it is about how to deal with disagreement.

Well said. Nobody is forced to be here. There are nice little pics and funny comments on Facebook if that's what you prefer, SB and MR. WS2 seems to be an Englishman who loves French. Why not - I enjoy his sophisticated postings.
I am a German who loves English (and Roxy Music and, last but not least, my girl friend, too). Therefore I feel free to post my thoughts in a foreign language. Of course, my English is far from being perfect. But I don't want members to be criticized because of using French, German, Dutch, Italian or whatever. VRM is an international forum based in Scotland. It should continue to be permissive and tolerant.

The point is...
There are many hundreds of people pass by this site, read the posts, no doubt have their own inward thoughts, but elect not to post, for one reason or another, shyness, perhaps.
It is totally infuriating when a post of great interest, which nearly all of them are here, finish off in a language I am not conversant with. I don't get it. I am all for the whole of Europe posting, from their native country, using a good interpretation of English, it's been the way of it since the site's inception. But why spoil a point by ending it in a language that may not be familiar to many, or most, especially when, one would assume, English is their spoken dialect? I would love to be able to speak French. I don't, sadly.
Please, can this be construed as constructive criticism.
Regards.

Sounds like the death knell for occasional levity and whimsy. However would Kenny Everett have managed in 2014, "mon petit pois"?

Could I suggest you correct your English first. Check your previous post. Is it 2 new albums?

Quote: Could I suggest you correct your English first. Inadvertently typing one letter incorrectly does not constitute bad English. I think the rudeness that some people here seem to be lining up to defend will prove rather more difficult to correct. What a sad way to discuss a new BF album.
