I don`t like NYC, CRUEL, GODDESS OF LOVE, and ALPHAVILLE. They have in common being lightweight and containing "great guitar work" (rythm guitar, that is). In many ways, this is what you think of when you say "Bryan Ferry" today. I just hope LOOP DE LI comes across differently.

Like Gardner (and many others I believe), Reason or Rhyme is the only track off of Olympia that I ever listen to anymore. I have a link to it on my office desktop and late in the afternoon when I'm thinking the deep thoughts (yes, I have a few from time to time...) I'll click on ROR. It definitely passes the "repeated listening" test.
I suppose if there is one ROR on Avonmore we should be happy. One is better than nothing!

Part 1 : Windswept, you were not one of the et al that I addressed in a previous post. And, Part 2, I really liked Olympia ( and its remixes). It wasn't a coherent piece of work - the last Ferry originals album(s) to do that were Taxi/Mamouna - but it was state of the art and 21st century, looking forwards. And there was no filler.
Avonmore will continue I this vein, with some Ferry originals not yet heard , ( I won't listen to short excerpts). I like the sound of a darkly driven title track.

Well, I couldn`t resist anymore. I just had to give Loop de Li a listen:
WOW! I mean, WOW! I`m overwhelmed! This is music right up my street. It seems it`s just a matter a nuances between beauty and the mediocre. As you`ve said, I hear elements from both NYC and Godess of Love, but this is many times better! Bryan really sounds like Bryan from way back when. Just as he did on Song to The Siren, but better! The man in the street would smile in recognition when hearing this! The song came across as very widescreen musically. Discernable details. Best BF song for ages!

[quote="Scott"]One thing that Bryan could have done, which may have pleased more people, was to release a DVD/CD set at the same time of the 'An Evening With….' tour.
Cher Scott, This is at the very top of Windswept's wish list. What triumphs AEWBF & BFWS were. If they go undocumented it will be a musical travesty! Windswept is also inspired that we have younger hipsters haunting this hallowed cyber hall. He has two sons of a similar age who constantly complain that they were brought up being driven around in a black Audi Quatro whilst forced to listen to an endless diet of Bryan Ferry and Robert Palmer. Personally, Windswept can't understand how one can wish for a finer education! Happily they now both understand the wisdom of his ways and have joined the club. a bien tôt, Windswept
