It would be interesting to see how high Avonmore will go in the album charts. The reviews have been good and I think the album is a lot stronger than many expected.

It would be good to see Bryan in the top 10 again (last time was Dylanesque), anyone not bought it yet and intending to do soon can help it chart high by buying it this week.

The vynil is a thing of beauty.

I can't play mine as I have no working turntable but I have been fondling it every day! ;)

I do hope Avonmore does well and enters with a good chart position.

I guess the good reviews, plus TV & radio promotion will help. I'm not sure how much exposure tracks apart from Loop De Li are getting on BBC Radio 2, but that could be important.

Of course as we get nearer to Xmas albums have to sell more copies to reach the higher positions than other times of the year. Olympia entered & peaked at #19. My guess for Avonmore, before I saw the favourable reviews for first week was maybe #21, but now I will stick my neck out & go for #14 - pure guesswork, probably nowhere near, but would be glad if it entered higher & made the top 10.

Pink Floyd's new album was released last week, AC/DC is to be released next week so Bryan has a good chance that 'Avonmore' could become album of the week at least for some German classic rock radio stations ... BTW, SWR1 of Stuttgart is a co-promoter of his concert there. And they are almost daily playing 'Loop De Li' :D .

Purely fictional but I wonder how high a new Roxy Music album would chart? I say top 5 ????

Currently sitting at number 14 in the midweek charts.

When you consider the time of year then that is a good placing. Will be interesting to see where it ends up on the final chart on Sunday - and also how it would compare had it not been at this time of year.

I think the reason 'Olympia' only got to 19 was because it was available in three different formats, whilst many of us got the deluxe version I think the single disc may have only be eligible for the charts. This time we only have the cd and vinyl so fingers crossed for it to get to the top 10.

Agreed it's a strong album, and had good reviews, but I think top 10 would be pushing it at this time year, given the number of populist new releases/compilations looking to cash in on Christmas. As Scott says it's a very respectable no 14 in the midweek charts (http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-new ... ined-3296/), and so looks to be heading for a top 20 placing, and probably higher 1st week sales than Olympia (given Avonmore's released closer to Christmas). If BF had sat on this till the new year I'm sure it would have been top 10, but then again it's nice to have it now.

Number 14 is a respectabe midweek placing. Can it hold on to that position, or even improve? The pre-orders will have already been included in that figure, so it depends on what new sales it can shift in the remainder of the week compared to the others.

See below estimated midweek sales for the top 5 albums - sales figures not given for the rest:

1 One Direction - FOUR (93.5k) *
2 Ed Sheeran - x (19.5k)
3 Pink Floyd - The Endless River (19.2k)
4 Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour (16.9k)
5 Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways (11.9k)

No idea how far off the #14 album Avonmore sales would be compared to #5 Foo Fighters.
