"More Than This", "Dance Away" and "Jealous Guy" are hit-singles from the F+B and Avalon albums, and the drums on Avonmore are played by daughter Tara Ferry Mon Dieu! Clearly written by a Bay City Rollers fan? W2

'Avonmore' is still a topic in the media in Germany: In the latest issue of hifi magazine 'Audio' BF's album was called the 'treasure of the month'. The music critic was really enthusiastic about the CD/vinyl even under technical aspects (4 out of 5 stars ). This evening 'BR' (Bavarian state-owned television) broadcast a 10 minute interview with Bryan in his London studio. What he told wasn't new to Ferry fans. But the interviewer said he'd remind him of Ronald Reagan. 'Oh, that's scaring ...', was Bryan's response . Yesterday I went into a big record store in Munich. I was very pleased to hear 'Avonmore' coming through the loudspeakers. In fact they had a lot of CD and vinyl copies in stock. That's how it should be .

Thus, I can`t approve of this review, which I discovered with interest earlier this evening. Before christmas, I read somewhere on the net that this song WON`T drive you wild. Still haven`t heard the song by then, my heart fell. Having heard it, I just have to comply with the critics` consesus; THIS AIN`T NO GREAT SONG!

Each to their own, but I think the Spectator critic is quite right to single out Driving Me Wild as an "absolute beauty". For my money this is a classic Ferry pop song and should be the next single.

[Quote] "Send In The Clowns’, which joins a shortish but eminent list of catastrophically ill-chosen Ferry covers. Why do it? To prove it couldn’t be done? To prove it shouldn’t be done?" OR C: To prove that this listener has got potatoes growing out of his ears?
Oh I do love a quiz....answers on the back of a postcard....
I'd put it right up there with the rest of the best.
Having said that, Send In The Clowns has never been a favourite of mine no matter who may be covering it. But What Bryan has done with this song is nothing short of genius.... to switch me onto it anyway.... I am amazed that he has been able take a song that I never really cared about in any way, shape or form, and turn it into something quite special, which has now become a song on the album that I can't stop playing.
Johnny Marr's backward guitar is fantastic and Enrico Tomasso's trumpet is beautiful, sounding out the sad reminder of what the story teller is signing to us, is just a stroke of brilliance. I genuinely believed that it would be the song I'd be leap frogging over to get to the next. In fact there isn't a single track on the album that I do skip past, and I can't wait for the tour!
"Just when I'd stopped opening doors finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours........." Fabulous x
I hope it makes this years set list ...... along with:
I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know
Feel The Need
She's Leaving Home
Sonnet 18
Smoke Dreams
As The World Turns
Crazy Love
Don't Be Cruel
Sounds like a playlist on my ipod...oh wait a minute...

I wholeheartedly agree with India and Helen's comments. I'm still loving this whole album.

"Avonmore" may not be another "For Your Pleasure" or "Stranded" but 40+years into his career it's still a terrific album IMO.
