What Bryan has done with this song is nothing short of genius.... to switch me onto it anyway.... I am amazed that he has been able take a song that I never really cared about in any way, shape or form, and turn it into something quite special, which has now become a song on the album that I can't stop playing.

Fellow Philanderers,
W2 could not agree more with Helen - SITC is a masterpiece.
That said, I loved the Observer review particularly when he says;"I imagine Ferry listens to chart music, if at all, with a Spok-like raised eyebrow and a faint air of disappointment that things have come to this".
True or not, I think that description is peerless and it's certainly the way Windswept listens to it.
Looking forward to the tour, W2 would love to see 'Serenade' included.
Salutations'
Windswept.

My 2 cents: Avonmore continues to get positive comments at amazon, while approaching the number of 90 customer "reviews". Most of them are short and not saying much more than "love it". Pink Floyd`s The Endless River has passed the number of amazing 1500 customer reviews.

Maybe you should become a Pink Floyd fan then?

Seriously, who cares? The one thing I will never understand about Roxy Music is how they could ever become commercially successful in the first place.

There is all reason to care. Just think of how much money and customer reviews a resurrected Roxy Music 9th album would generate. Roxy were maybe not commercially succesful in the first place, but in the secong place...-hmm, -hmm, -hugely so. This means the moment they learnt to combine verses with refrains.

Mes Amis,
The great 'Lonely Dreamer' raises an interesting point.
I remember talking with a friend of mine after I saw them for the first time in '72.
He was a great guy called John Harker (RIP) who used to DJ at a club in Sunderland called Annabels. He had a fabulous taste in music and he introduced me to a lot of great stuff. His take on 'Roxy' was; "absolutely fabulous but they are way too good to succeed".
His comment was driven by the rubbish that had started to infiltrate the charts.
Happily, he was wrong!
Salutations,
W2

Ain`t that peculiar how much bad taste that was around by then! The Sweet, Bay City Rollers, Mud, Suzi Quattro, David Cassidy, Donny Osmond! Why should we who had our teens in the 70s get so much bad stuff? I know the answer, so it`s just an expression of dispair. It was the flip side of the 60s, downhill sort of, everything was permitted.

Dear Le Freak, you are quite right that there was a lot of drivel around. However, my rose tinted hindsight recalls T Rex, Cockney Rebel(!), Sparks(!!), Roxy, Crimson, Eno, Iggy, Bowie, The Pistols, The Clash, Joy Division, Elvis Costello early phase, Kate Bush, Siouxsie, Can, Kraftwerk....so we had a parallel golden era then too.

Edit: I forgot Chic, The Specials, Talking Heads....

Debauched Dilettantes,
As a ghost in this hallowed cyber hall who long ago morphed into a grumpy old hipster, Windswept finds this subject extremely interesting.
He would propose that we launch a separate thread entitled "Was It Really Better Then?" to discuss this very issue.
Are we up for it?
Salutations,
Windswept.

Dear W2: well, I for one think that the Seventies had a pretty good case for best ever musical decade.
