Hi,
I was wondering if the opinion of others on here had changed over the years of Roxy/Ferry songs, i.e. are there any songs you used to love/hate that you now think of differently?
Maybe songs that are played to death live - for example I fell out of love with 'Do the Strand', others would be happy if they never heard 'Jealous Guy' performed ever again.
One song I definitely feel different about is 'More than This'. With its sparse lyrics - which I never really appreciated at the time, I just saw it as a light 'pop' single. I never would have guessed it would be covered as much as it has and that cover versions would chart in the US & UK.

My very personal opinion is that Love Is The Drug and Let's Stick Together has been done to death.

I love "Psalm" now. I was wary of that and "Amazona" when I bought my first Roxy album in 1973. Side 2 of Stranded was just perfect. My re-evaluation came after I saw Ferry's virtuoso performance of the track on Musikladen.
Another thought, I listened to the live version of "Both Ends Burning" from Viva! Roxy Music the other day. And it rocks. Boy, it rocks. Incredible live performance from the band.
Someone on this forum said recently that he didn't care much for Ferry/Roxy's music after The Bride Stripped Bare. Some statement, but I sort of get it, although I don't agree. Let's discuss. Again.

With the exception of More Than This almost anything from the Avalon album. My least favouriteRoxy album. Tend to agree with the feelings of solo stuff since The Bride Stripped Bare as well.

Believe it or not, Do The Strand took a while to grow on me.
I can't say I "hate" any Roxy stuff, Cry Cry Cry is flat tho', and I'm not that keen on Psalm or Whirlwind.
As for solo stuff...Amazing Grace, Party doll and Goodnight Irene just don't cut it.
Love is the Drug still does it for me, the funkiest bass line, it's just a fabulous groove, but live I miss TGPTs drum rolls and Andy's sexy sax.
Taxi is the most underrated stunning heartfelt pure BF cover imo.
On a par with Will you still me Tomorrow.

Great thread!
I too don't actually hate any of Roxy Music's seventy-four studio album tracks, but constantly re-evaluate (recently decided that 'Country Life' might well be taking over as my favourite album from 'For Your Pleasure'!)
Here's a game I play a lot, the 'one from each album album'! This week it's:
Remake Remodel For Your Pleasure Serenade A Really Good Time Just Another High Manifesto Running Wild Take A Chance With Me
Next week it'll be different, guaranteed!!!

Oh, and P.S: I too could happily never hear 'Jealous Guy' again.

Nothing better than the one track from each album game.
My "favourite" album changes with my mood but I think Country Life is the "best" album.

The other compilation exercise is reimagining what Street Life, 20 greatest hits, could have sounded like if Manzanera and Mackay were included. Imagine Street Life, the Roxy Music story volume one.
Side One Virginia Plain Pyjamarama Street Life All I Want is You Love is the Drug
Side Two A Hard Rain a Gonna Fall Diamond Head The In Crowd Wild Weekend Let's Stick Together
Side Three Island This is Tomorrow K Scope Sign of the Times Gold and Green
Side Four Dance Away Oh Yeah Midnight Hour Jealous Guy More Than This

Great thread - In all honesty I don't think my likes and dislikes have changed much over the years - although I do appreciate the first album now a lot more than I used to although Bitters End is still a ? for me.
For me the peak of Roxy was FYP, Stranded and Country Life and then Avalon. I always think of Avalon as having a big Eno influence with all the textures and soundscapes and that dreamy feel to it. Tara could be off one of Eno's ambient things. Its almost like the circle has been completed.
The worst of Roxy for me was the West Side of Manifesto and F&B without a shadow of a doubt.
One song from each album Album
Remake/Remodel The Bogus Man Amazona Prarie Rose Nightingale Manifesto Same Old Scene Space Between Us
It will change tomorrow of course
