John ; Thanks For Pointing out how many times Bryan uses that line The Chained and Bound I Thought it Was a Recurring theme in his songs, And I Love that particular line, but I just couldn't match them up Very Very Interesting

At the end of the day, only one Roxy member had the succicntness and economy of style to sum up the aspirations of north east English working class life.... the great Paul Thompson: "Your application's failed". Perfection. Not a word wasted.

Rather good: I am for a life around the corner That takes you by surprise That comes, leaves, all you need And more besides
Not so good: Turn on the power With your four letter love.
Good thread btw. So many great lyrics.

But You are My Favourita And a Place in Your Heart Dear Makes me Feel More Real... And let's take a look at Psalm... I think Bryans most I don't know how to describe in words... Religious? Song... I just happened to look at the lyrics again and I am having some conflicting feelings about faith at the moment... https://youtu.be/y50fj5ED8I8https://youtu.be/NNzDy60RdEohttps://youtu.be/aloaJv3n8cI

Psalm is one of my least favourite Roxy tracks....I don't want to open another argument about the others. It ruined the working class cinema dreams and hot summer Amazonian sweaty sexy feel of Stranded...but that's just my opinion.
However, I have tried and tried to enjoy it for over 40 years now. I can appreciate the clever lyrics and the way Bryan makes it a jaunty New Orleans get together at a wake.
When I was an art student (surprise), I was told this was Bryan's first attempt at songwriting, plugging away on what I assume was a Methodist ministry type organ, bless him.
Then one of the guys in our house told me that he read that Psalm was Bryan's pisstake (that means mickeytake to our overseas readers) on religion.
Bearing in mind I was an avaricious reader of anything Roxy related I don't believe I could have missed this comment, the guy in question was probably just winding me up, but it was intriguing that the fella even acknowledged the track -he was a punk called Ian Lowry, lead singer of the band The Wall. He used some of my drawings to get into art college.
So, if Psalm is a cock a snook at religion, fine...but I still think it's a dirge and if ever I meet Bryan I will say thanks for everything apart from bloody Psalm!!!
