You must have a couple of years on me, Avalon_eyes, as I think I'd have been doing O levels when IYM was released.

I've always loved that album to bits and I've probably never come closer to wearing out a bit of vinyl!

I have great fondness for the album as it was the first Ferry/Roxy album that I bought on release, having become a fan around 74/75 and then only having Bryan's cover versions to buy in 1976. In Your Mind does seem to divide the faithful, it certainly has a style of its own (thanks to the strings in no small part) but looking back on it now the thing that strikes me is just how wordy (crammed with lyrics) many of the songs on it are, which is ironic given how their creator is renowned for taking ages to perfect one line or phrase. As time has passed the lyrics have got sparser...but not then.

IYM was never off my Technics Music Centre back in that summer, I was also sitting my A levels in sunny Sheffield. We had a great music scene bubbling, but at that time I was vey narrow in my listening habits and only had kraftwek and Bowie and early John Foxx !!
IYM remains my favourite and most played Ferry solo LP and I never skip any tracks.

I think IYM is one of BF finest solo albums, but I also think it is a piece of significant evidence that AM was the "vital" Roxy ingredient.

I always loved this a conflation of the Classical Greek myth and Proust's Remembrance of Things Past. Would it not otherwise be "You'll be Leda, and I'll be the swan"?

I fall into the camp that adores the album, also wearing out the grooves on the vinyl. It's the one I go back to as it always sounds fresh, though I admit to intensely disliking "Tokyo Joe"

My favourite Ferry album by a country mile and, in my humble opinion, the best collection of original songs he has ever produced (all downhill from there I'm afraid).

I've even stopped skipping over 'Tokyo Joe' (still pretty naff, but fits well sonically in its position on the album).

In Your Mind was part of Bryan / Roxy's best century, the 70s, when they all were young and hungry for new aspects of music, hungry for new experiences and hungry for success. Especially In Your Mind and The Bride Stripped Bare were highlights of this golden period 8-)
