The latest UK Album Charts has Olympia at #80 - last week it was #52 and the week before it debuted at #19. It seems Olympia will be lucky to remain in the top 100 next week the way things are trending.
I don't know how these rankings translate to album sales, but I doubt that cumulative sales in Britain have exceeded 50,000 so far - and even that number might be generous. Olympia could use some substantive radio airplay if it is going to "get some legs" in terms of sales. But airplay doesn't seem to be happening in Great Britain...

This is a disaster for a very bad album. The future of Bryan is Roxy Music, I hope he will at last realize that!

It can be hard to predict what will catch the public's fancy and all the PR work in the world can't make people buy a record if they don't want to. Of course, money could be spent on buying radio spots and other means of advertising but would/will this make that much difference? Or has the public pretty much already decided what the fate of Olympia is to be in terms of downloads and "units moved"?
I think that the failure of You Can Dance to attract much/any interest when in first became available as a download back in August served as an omen for the album as a whole. BF perceived the dance club world as a medium that would bolster the success of Olympia but this appears to have proven illusory. BF and his involvement in ritzy Dance Club Life might attract the interest of tabloids who track his comings and goings, but this type of media attention has not done much to get people to actually go out and buy his latest record. Yes, Kate Moss is a fashion icon and the cover of Olympia is indeed quite stylish, but that hasn't translated into album sales. Why? Who knows? That's what makes the entertainment business such a strange, uncertain business... Trying to predict what the public will like is always fraught with uncertainty.

You are right but you forget "the main thing" : an album with no soul, no enthusiasm, no originality, empty actually, can't interest many people, that's the reason why. You can promote a product, if the product is not good, it will not work

JJ: Interesting that you mention "The Main Thing" because I have thought about that song in the context of Olympia. TMT isn't a terrible song, it is simply bland and unmemorable. And unfortunately for BF it appears that that is how the public in Britain is reacting to Olympia - it is perceived as bland and unmemorable presumably because that is it how YCD and Shameless are being perceived as songs. In particular I was thinking about TMT in regard to the performance of Shameless on Jools/Later.
I'm not as down on Olympia as you apparently are, and I think there are definitely a couple of bright spots (STTS and Tender/Night). But I agree that overall Olympia has a very synthetic quality that can reasonably be characterized as "soulless." And as much as I can appreciate the artistic quality of the "Kate Moss Cover Art," it's not that hard to see how people might perceive it as rather cold and "soulless" and not particularly inviting.

You're spot on DCJ, Kate Moss is not a popular figure with the UK public. Ferry made a big mistake in choosing her to promote a new record. I think he must have owed her one for getting him the Burberry ad when he lost out with M&S.
