During the last weeks there have been some posts on Facebook that The Kinks are finishing a new album and have thus recorded more than 20 songs. Ray and Dave Davies have confirmed that. If they really succeed to release a new album after almost 30 years

- I am absolutely excited how The Kinks will perform at this advanced age (Ray must be 82 or so while his brother is younger, maybe Mick Avory on drums?) and:

- I cannot really understand why our beloved band Roxy Music could never decide to produce one last album (containing of new material) during the last 43 years ... Even the release of deluxe editions of their back catalogue is something like a drama. In contrast to so many other bands ...

I'm braced for the usual tsunami of comments about the ubiquitous 9th album! But on the more substantive part of your post, Peter, yes this is intriguing, isn't it? It'll be interesting to hear what the band have to say after all this time. As with BF, it's remarkable that the desire to create new music after such long illustrious careers is still omnipresent.

Thanks for the 'heads up'. Perhaps you could post some updates around the release date, in case it gets overlooked although I imagine there'll be a decent amount of media interest?

I will, of course, inform you about The Kinks' new opus, Richard.

By the way, I didn't want to start a new discussion about the 9th album. My intention was to compare the legacy of those two bands. The Kinks reissued so many albums (Celluloid Heroes, Muswell Hillbillies etc.) with extra material, outtakes or bonus tracks at affordable prices.

In contrast to that we have the luxurious SDE of Roxy Music 1 at a very high price (I know that there was a downgraded version). These days Bryan re-released As Time Goes By and Olympia - but there seems to be little difference to the original versions.

So the legacy of The Kinks is much more present and will be even more if the new album is out. As a Kinks fan I am looking forward to this but as a RM fan I am sad that Team Roxy doesn't seem to exist any more.

I own both the spoken and the instrumental versions of Loose Talk and acknowledge the creativity of BF in his later years but if I am honest it's no compensation for the non-existing deluxe reissues of Roxy 2 - 8 ...
