I was excited for an Olympia-esque treatment of "Roxy Music" with a proper book and bonus material.I think the deluxe version of the debut album will be well worth the wait; if the other 7 studio albums get the same treatment in due course, so much the better! The April set looks impressively comprehensive; I don't buy all the compilations, but will make an exception for this one.

Someone has already suggested a 2 CD of 'Viva' which has got me a little excited as I was thinking exactly the same thing. It was originally going to be a double album anyway so why not? there must be some little unreleased gems they could include to make up the cd...also love Bryan's vocals on this live album too 'Chance Meeting' makes me tingle from head to toe. Just beautiful. What a delight a double would be...wetting myself at the thought
If Bryan's spy's are tuning in.... A 2 CD of 'Viva' please. you know it makes sense

I think only a few people get this... there are no unreleased Roxy Music songs, no hidden gems tucked away.
I'll celebrate this release as it'll mark Roxy Music as one of the most influential bands ever.... though I won't buy it.
Yes, a stunning newly available live recording from 1971-1976 would be good to hear and a re-mastered , re-packaged "Roxy Music" would be something to look forward to.

Yes,but why release what amounts to already available stuff ? What's the point of another release of already available stuff ? They have the original demo recordings with Roger Bunn and David O'List. I would pay good money to listen to that ! They have the OGWT 1972, and the John Peel radio stuff from 1872 and 1973 which is way more interesting than another re-release with a few photographs thrown in !! Wow !! I can't sleep for the excitement!! Going back to Viva, I think Andy wanted Viva to be the Wembley 1975 show.Bryan didn't, because it would be mainly songs from Siren So,we got a mixed bag from 73, 74 and 75. But, they have the whole Glasgow1973 show from where Pyjamarama and Chance Meeting came from They have the whole Newcastle 1974 show and they have the whole Wembley 1975 show. They also have the whole Wembley 1975 show on video. And more !! They rehearsed Light my fire in 1982 o,put some effort in guys and ditch the Greatest Hits packages The band is already dead so they have nothing to lose now. Who cares if it's full of flaws. Get that stuff out before we're all dead !

Hahaha.... I'm with you on this Ian, I'm a little disappointed, I wanted to hear all the demo's, unreleased stuff, rehearsed and not played stuff and definitely more Viva! The only thing that got me excited on this thread was the mention of a double Viva CD. how sad is that? Giving what they have hidden away It makes perfect sense to get it out to the hardcore fans who want to hear and see it.
As Ian has mentioned, this side of life would be even better!
Come on boys, sort it for us.

Ditto Ian Although the deluxe boxed set versions of the albums are going to look very nice on a shelf, as many on here have already said it's all repeated stuff we've all got. Especially if you've already got 'The Thrill of it All' Who is it all aimed at indeed - collectors items I guess but I can't see many takers myself but... Would just love to get my hands on the demos/John Peel recordings. Plus a new DVD of last years gig would be nice. Listen to the people guys

There are a few things to consider here:
No one is forced to buy this. Those who buy it want to and those that don't won't so no need to complain it is on the record shop shelf.
I know many fans that have said they wish certain vinyl only (to date) stuff was available on CD, so now these tracks are available. There will be fans glad this is coming out.
There is a theme to this box set and that is a simple one, it compiles everything they released as a band while they were a band. There are no dance mixes from later years, no promo only radio edits, no edits that appeared on compilation albums years after they spilt, just the stuff available at one time while they were a recording band.
To add demos or un released stuff to this package will muddy the waters a wee bit and make the 'theme' untidy.
The biggest point I want to put across is that Roxy Music are not alone in this sort of issue, there are many bands now packaging their back catalogue this way.
Like other artists, the deluxe editions of albums are aimed to concentrate/microscope particular eras of a bands career. I have some from Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Who and many more. This is the place where die hards can usually find unreleased material (if it exists), demos, works in progress, rare live stuff etc.
I am sure the Roxy Music deluxe edition will try and give as much as possible that their biggest fans would love to see, hear and own.
There are some bands I like but don't have much of their material but would be interested in a 'complete' box set of material that was deemed fit enough for release when the original albums were released. For example, I like The Police but don't have any of their CDs. I would like a 'Complete' Police but not sure I am a big enough fan to want 'rough around the edges' BBC session, live material or songs deemed not good enough to release at one time. I am sure there are people that have liked Roxy and would see this as a good purchase but would hate the 71 Demo and BBC sessions.
If you read the press release you will see that this is only kicking off the 40th anniversary, I am sure by this time next year we will have some other stuff released that big fans like ourselves here will love.
I have been involved in some of these re-issues and all I can say is be patient regarding previously unseen/unheard material, they have their place to be released and The Complete RM is not the place. I can assure you they are 'listening to the fans' There is a fan employed to relay these sort of things and everything has been taken on board and being considered.

The die-hards are desperate to hear new stuff. Anything ! Including new old stuff. So it's always a big let down when it turns out to be another Greatest Hits package or something along those lines. . But I accept that this release is not the place to include demos, etc.So, I'm quite happy to wait for the Deluxe versions.

Amen to that John: "no need to complain". Well said. Those that want to buy it will buy it, and others can complain all they want about it. As a die-hard fan, I love anything Roxy puts out.
