I had a dream last night. I dreamed that 2022 would be the 50th anniversary of the first Roxy Music album. And a Greatest Hits/Best Of Compilation was released.

With the 40th anniversary coming up, I can't wait for the The Complete Studio Recordings to come out!
I rest my case.
Have you not already got all the stuff that is to be reissued ? If you haven't,fine. If you have, then I admire your enthusiasm. For me,it's like buying 30 copies of the same newspaper today. Which one should I read ?Hmmmmm........

John makes some very valid points regarding this release- nobody is forced to buy it and the obscure stuff that we "diehards" want will be released later which is excellent news. However, I wonder if one point I made earlier in this thread can be clarified regarding the tracks not previously available on CD before- the completist in me would like to have those tracks but I've already bought all of the albums in this release more than once already- first of all on vinyl, then on CD and I will certainly be buying the individual deluxe editions of the albums, (however many get the full deluxe treatment) so it is difficult to justify buying the whole set yet again. Will these tracks be available to download separately, will they appear on the individual album rereleases or is this set the only way to get them? If it turns out that this set will be the only way to get these tracks then the argument that "nobody is forced to buy this set" doesn't really hold together if you really do want everything Roxy released.

I am not sure if this will be available as a download as individual tracks or not. The download 'format' is something I have never paid attention to as every note of music I have is CDs or vinyl that I have bought over the years. I just an old fashioned guy I suppose.

I have to confess to being a bit old fashioned myself and like to have my music in tangible form but it's the way things are going! I suppose I would just feel reassured there was some way to get all the extra tracks without shelling out for everything for about the 4th time! If they were going to be bonus tracks on the deluxe album reissues that would be the ideal scenario in my opinion.

Ian,
I've given away some of my collection to friends to get them turned on to Roxy, and they have since become fans, so I will definitely get this package to replenish.
John, I've paid & downloaded some of the Olympia remixes from Juno, and I think it's great. iTunes has Bryan & Roxy to buy and download videos or individual tracks, so that's a great avenue for them as well.

I am sure downloads are right for some people but not for me. There are a lot of pros and cons for MP3 etc
It's a bit ironic now that the C in CD means compact.

Haven't downloaded from iTunes, but Juno uses .wav format which isn't compressed like .mp3
It's not a big thing for me, but it's great if you like a particular remix.

Informative blurb from Howstuffworks.com below about the benefits of DVD audio which will be used for the latest release. The bottom line is that you need a 192kHz/24-bit DVD player to get the best sound, and then it depends upon the recording source:
The recording industry has a new standard for DVD audio discs that will greatly improve the sound quality. DVDs can hold 74 minutes of music at their highest quality level. CDs can also hold 74 minutes of music. By lowering either the sampling rate or the accuracy, DVDs can hold more music. For instance a DVD can hold almost 7 hours of CD quality audio. DVD audio discs and players are rare right now, but they will become more common, and the difference in sound quality should be noticeable. To take advantage of higher quality DVD audio discs, however, you will need a DVD player with a 192kHz/24-bit digital to analog converter. Most DVD players only have a 96kHz/24-bit digital to analog converter. So if you are planning to take full advantage of DVD audio be sure to look for a 192kHz/24-bit DAC.

There is no point kidding myself on - I will buy this. Oh, I will start out determined not to, but I know that over time my resolve will crumble until one day I will find myself in some music store, with too much cash in my pocket, looking at this beautifully packaged collection (and it will be beautifully packaged, folks) and I will convince myself that this is an entirely rational and sensible purchase......which it won't remotely be, but isn't that the point?
One thing that I am not sure about is the price point for this set. If it is too high then surely there won't be many lukewarm types out there willing to splash all that cash - not when the individual albums can be picked up for as little as £3 each nowadays. Sure, they won't get the bolt-ons or the Fancy Dan format with improved sound quality, but how many people other than committed fans will really pay a big premium for that?
On the other hand, if the price is set too low, won't that just devalue the package from the outset?
A conundrum for the marketing boys, I think !
