The original was a powerful passionate song, sung by a guy with a really powerful voice. So anyone would pale in comparison. I don' tthink it suits Bryan's voice and certainly not as a duet with Aznavour.. Link for 2 Charles Aznavour versions below.

Ageing Hipsters,
The merits of "She" are interesting but not really the point.
What is the perfect vehicle for the Ferry/Bowie duet?
Thats the one thats going to win a place on the "Stripped" fantasy album.
Regards,
A very aged Windswept

I think "Lady Grinning Soul" would be just beautiful for BF/Bowie with Bryan taking to the piano of course. Gorgeous song, a couple of high notes in there though, but that can be sorted out between them I'm sure.

Bowie's most beautiful song. I have to be careful when I play this as it can sometimes catch me out and bring tears to my eyes - Big Jessie that I am !

However, surely any re-work would pale in comparison to the original sublime recording? That's why I would rule this one out, plus I think Windswept is looking to restrict suggestions to BF compositions here (can you give some clarification on this please, Windswept)

A Bowie / Ferry duet is a "must" on this fantasy album - but nominating the right track is not going to be easy.

Haha! I just read Ferry / Bowie duet and dived straight in with a Bowie song. Sorry about that.

Yes, stunning song, brings tears to my eyes too...... and In my own little world I still think this song could work beautifully as a duet with Bowie and BF. None of them are as young vocally anyway and even Bowie's vocals wouldn't sound the same, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't work and wouldn't still be beautiful. I would love to hear Bryan playing those haunting piano notes, just spellbinding. Admittedly nothing would compare to the original, but I'm all ears anyway.

Maybe a Bowie collaboration album would be a better idea. I'll go and pester him about it.....

Dear Rendezvous,
Sorry we don't agree about Birkin. I wanted to like it and I warmed to other tracks on that album but that one just didn't do it for me.
I think the Bowie idea is inspired - if you had to pick one track for inclusion in the "Stripped" fantasy, what would it be?
Regards,
Windswept[/quote]

Dear Windswept2,
No need for the apology my friend, you are an excellent contributor to this forum, and thank you for such a gracious compliment; I'm delighted others have picked up on the Bowie duet idea.

My original idea was that Bowie would do a complete side of Roxy tracks and vice-versa for Bryan, but I love the idea of trying to pick just one track from either the Roxy debut, FYP, Ziggy or Aladdin Sane for the pair of them to do....and I think the reasoning shown by our chums means they've nailed it with Lady Grinning Soul, you clever people!!!!! ;)

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hmmm. How about BF "reconnecting" with Eno and doing a version of Heroes. Phil M could be brought in for the lead guitar. This is something I'd like to hear!

Another possibility is for BF to do his take on Five Years. Below is a link to great clip of a live performance Bowie did on on American talk show back in the mid-70s. The audio is quite good and the flickering quality of the video enhances the apocalyptic nature of the song. Also, the fact that the camera stays on him for a single shot during most of the song is quite compelling. I have come to hate the "quick cut" techniques of modern videography. This clip demonstrates that it's the performance that matters, not the editing...

Would love to hear Bryan doing Wild is The Wind,
Bowie doing Do The Strand, both doing With a Little
Help From My Friends.

Paint that picture! :ugeek:

Hipsters,
I am torn regarding the Bowie/Ferry fantasy duet.
"Lady Grinning Soul" is a fabulous idea but "The Man Who Sold The World" keeps calling me.
We should rule on the issue soon.
One things for sure, the commercial appeal of this track will guarantee our album's success and the wonga generated will make Bob Diamond's bonus look like chump change.
As the launch nears, I am painfully aware that we are without an album title or cover.
All suggestions are welcome?
Regards,
Windswept.

Phishing for info Windswept?

It's you! You're the mole For RM & BF!

Anyhoot, how did Bowie find his way in here?
Not into scrolling back or up or looking for whoever
started it.

Bryan & David are so similar in music and lyrics
it is tempting to think of them doing something
together.

If I was a good mixer, I'd whip something up with
the same b.p.m. and upload to the sound in the cloud.

Thought the title is ‘Roxy Music: The Complete Studio Recordings 1972-1982’.

As for the cover? All the babes in collage form.
