C ant say anything about that. Some like wine, others prefers beer. (Agree with you that it can be too much Dylan - why is BF so obsessed by him?)

Yeah, why is BF so obsessed by him? I do know his "A Hard Rain`s Gonna Fall", which was fine, because it was smooth, and sort of Bryan`s style. However, in recent years, he seems to have developed a taste for roots music and the use of harmonica; pub music, to put it harshly. Just think of his "Cruel" and other tracks from the Frantic album, plus of course the Dylanesque album.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dylan songs that Bry performs live goes back to his Gas Board days. Any one attend a GB performance?

Have a look at this thread where Windswept2 talks about seeing The Gas Board.

Many many artists and bands have had much success over the years covering Dylan. The Byrds and Peter Paul and Mary were among the first and the list goes on and on and on (Adele being a recent participant)...

When BF covers Dylan he automatically has a hook to engage the audience. The song is "pre-sold" in a sense and the only thing that BF has to give up is the song writing royalty that goes to BD(!). Certainly the music industry had changed between 2007 and 2010, but Dylanesque was nonetheless more successful than Olympia because the audience was attuned to Dylan in ways that they could never be for the material on Olympia.

That said, I find it interesting that BF did five Dylan songs during his Iceland gigs. That is a lot!

DCJ, your "defence" smells of market considerations big time! (I`m deliberately omitting the use of the "quote" tool in the name of swiftness).

- True, doing a Dylan album is an old idea, almost over-used. When I first heard of BF doing this, it made me think of the album "Hollies sings Dylan" from the late 60s, so nothing new there.

- True, the audience is already "hooked" when hearing Dylan, but in that way, BF also risks accusations of lameness because of reasons stated above.

I was able to count only 4 songs each night (Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues – Make You Feel My Love - Don't Think Twice It's All Right - All Along The Watchtower). That is much too, considering only 2 songs from the Olympia album.

You're right Le Freak - there were only four Dylan tunes in the recent set list. Me bad. Sorry. But four is still a sizable number...

You're also right that BF risks "accusations of lameness" by relying too much on Dylan songs, especially if they rather bland or predictable interpretations. He set a high bar with his VERY distinctive take on the "Hard Rain" featured on These Foolish Things. Dylanesque was too mainstream as far as I was concerned...

BTW I have a vinyl copy of the Hollies Sing Dylan! I haven't heard it in years, maybe I should dig it out and give it a spin. I recall that it was OK but nothing really great...

Here's a great clip of the Hollies singing Just Like a Woman. This is a very good cover!

Did the commercial failure of olympia have an impact on the lack of songs from that album being played on the olympia tour or was it the gap between album and tour?
