Hi, I am a huge Roxy Music fan, saw them first in 1972 at Redcar Jazz Club. Here is my version of one of my favourite tracks "If There Is Something": http://snd.sc/KcCzgS

Hi John, / vinylshrine / Fast Cakes,
Just listened to your version of If There Is Something.
I like it! Sounds like you put alot of work into it. Ya gotta watch it here, some people are stuck only on RM & Bryan's stuff, and it's hard for some to expand their musical tastes.
I'm a song-writer too and have been told I sound like Bryan. Didn't try to. Just am.
I enjoyed it!
Great job!
E

Thanks for your kind comments.
I know I am taking a risk posting fresh on a board I don't know as the regulars might not take kindly to a cover version!
It was actually done for a Roxy tribute LP but it was rejected!! I thought it was good enough, but I'm biased.
I better not post my live version of Editions Of You that I taped in 1977, I might get lynched.

Well, you popped out of nowhere and lay your music on us, which is all well & good, but I would have eased in and gotten to know some of the folks in here.
So, tell them something about yourself.

Okay....
I am in my 50's, I am a musician and record collector, I make my living selling vinyl records. I have seen Roxy Music twice (Redcar Jazz Club 1972, Newcastle Town Hall c.1975) As well as Roxy Music I like The Beatles, Zappa, Van Morrison, Yes, Genesis, Bowie, The Flower Kings, Bob Dylan, The Clash amongst others.

Sounds great, I'm not a great fan of straight covers, i think you did a really nice job or reinterpretation while stirr honoring the spirit of the original.
Good show!

Friend, you don't need to give your background for validation, this isn't an exclusive club where you are voted in. Have fun and welcome. This can be a very interesting forum.

Thanks Bill, that's a more welcoming reply.
eero - I agree there's little point in doing a "karaoke" version when the original is a classic song - I tried to stamp my own personality on it and only did a Ferry impersonation at the very end.

I too saw our heroes for the first at Redcar Jazz Club in '72 and was wondering if you knew if they did a gig at "Kirk Levington Country Club" in the same year? The reason I ask is that I'm pretty sure that I saw them at the "Kirk" as well as RJC but it's not referenced in the tour history of this splendid site so maybe I'm hallucinating. Regards and welcome, Windswept
