BF has played more than a few gigs in Russia over the past decade (some in public venues, some for private clientele) and he certainly has considerably standing as a musician/artist in the country. So I was wondering where he stands in regard to the issues raised by the incarceration of Pussy Riot (who were just convicted of "hooliganism" in a Russian court). As part of this I was struck by the similarity of PR's crime - an invasion of a major Orthodox Church - to the invasion of Parliament by BF's son Otis to protest fox hunting. Both constituted symbolic political protest.
BF supported his son in the aftermath of the Parliament invasion and I wonder if he has any interest in supporting Pussy Riot in their on-going battle.
Am I suggesting that BF is obligated to support Pussy Riot in their battle with the Russian state? No, he is not obligated. But I wonder what his position on this issue might be given his willingness/desire to perform in Russia over the past several years. Will it affect his decisions going forward regarding invitations to play private gigs for Russia' business/political elite? Just wondering...
