I agree with True2Life's post above.

I will almost certainly buy the new cd, but I hope it has a fresh sound and isn't based on a lot of tracks started years ago and then revised and reworked to the point of exhaustion. Some of the tracks on Olympia had four drummers credited on the track listing. Whew. I hope the new cd takes a different tack.

And while a "dance sound/vibe" could be good, I hope that BF doesn't go too Techno. All of the various DJ remixes distributed over the past few years have left me rather bored with the genre.

There are a few songs left over from Horoscope and Alphaville that aren't too bad in my opinion. So don't be surprised if some of them turn up on the new album !

The last one I thought that was any good was Frantic. Nothing since has interested me apart from the odd track. I was filled with great disappointment as I placed Olympia in it's sleeve after trying to listen to it, and there it has remained since.

- Very honest words indeed.

Have to agree with Gary. Olympia was a major disappointment for me.
If I am honest a lot of Bryan's solo work since the mid 80's has disappointed me. Did like Frantic though and was pleasantly surprised by Dylanesque. Always was more of a Roxy man myself. Although the 70's produced a lot of rubbish, to me it was a golden decade. Roxy, Bowie, Mott, T Rex, Cockney Rebel, loved it. And IMHO the decade when Bryan gave us by far his best 4 solo albums.

Tru2life had a good point when mention the time factor. But all this talk about the decline of Ferry`s voice is, at least in my ears, nonsense. Surely it has changed, as it is the case with us all, but not necessarely to the worse.
In my opinion, Mamouna is Ferry`s best album as a whole, followed by Boys and Girls and Bete Noir. All of these albums contains the true essence of Ferry. I don`t understand all the sentimental fools who glorify the early material by Roxy by saying it was more from a band effort than from the man himself. In fact, nothing is more BF than the early RM. ( Brian Eno, whom I have nothing against, wrote not a single note for the band.)
I look forward to the new release. Of course it will not be "instrumental".

Fully agree, but worst album cover ever.

Agree first Mamouna then bete noire, olympia, boys and girls. Don't like the early stuff that much except bride is also great. I would like more songs like reason rhyme and me oh my...and usually I hate remixes but the Olympia ones were nice.

To me, any new album of BF has really no interest. Olympia was the "chant du cygne" in French, means the last one you sing before dying, artistically I mean.

Ageing Hipsters,
This illustrious site is a broad church and all dilettantes are entitled to their view. That said, I have to confess to finding jeanjean's comments more than a little bizarre. Unless he or she has their own personal TARDIS ,I like our great leader -J O'B - fail to see how you can judge an album that you haven't actually heard?
For my part, my excitement cup runneth over and although I have no desire to wish my life away, November can't come soon enough!
With regards to "Olympia", I love several tracks - Alphaville,Reason Or Rhyme, Me Oh My, Tender Is The Night - to name just four but would heartily concur with StephenPep, "Mamouna" remains Geordie's favourite son's solo masterpiece albeit "As Time Goes By" is an album that I constantly return to and I have to confess,I find the idea of a jazz album completely fascinating.
As for the cover, Mrs Windswept is on standby but I have advised her not to hold her breath!
Regards, Windswept.

Windswept2,

Well said.

BF can't please everyone.

I love everything he's ever done.
