Reports are coming in thick and fast of this impending Jazz album. What do we think will be on it? Covers of Trad songs? Covers of recent songs? New experimental and instrumental arrangements? Or possibly even arrangements of his own songs....like the Isabella Blow tribute that is on BF's sound cloud page? http://soundcloud.com/bryanferry/when-s ... the-room-1What do we think?

Some of BF's own songs worked surprisingly well when played by the ATGB tour band, so that might be interesting.
I somehow don't think he'll do another whole album of vintage standards; I think he'll view that box as ticked.

I heard a lot of it in progress as it was being recorded earlier in the year and I got the final track list the other day. I look forward to hearing the final mixed version. It certainly is jazz with a twist.
The details will appear soon as Bryan has done a recent interview that will be available soon and I can't say more than that for now.
This album is certainly a departure from what BF has done before and not what you would call the follow up to Olympia.

"Jazz isn't dead, it just smells bad"...Frank Zappa Not another pointless release, a la ATGB, what's the point.
BF must have a lot of RM soundboard recordings, circa 73-76, lying about, why doesn't he do what a lot of other bands do and release these type of recordings? Regardless of the quality they would certainly be a lot more welcome than what he has planned.
What about the 40th anniversary 1st album? No doubt the release date ( like every other RM/BF album, since as far back as 1975, whether it's new stuff, a compilation or live album, ) has been put back. It will be next year now, he won't want to release this at the same time as his jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz album.

this 2012 not 1976..i don't want to hear nostagia..BF has put out plenty of those kind of albums..if an artist has something new to say.. i am ready for it..ala Scott Walker..i may not like his newstuff, but would much rather appreciate an artist that takes some chances

I doubt we will be in for another ATGB - BF has done this and doesn't repeat himself, and JO'B has pretty much confirmed it will be something 'new', but for me ATGB was a wonderful album. I don't think other artists that ventured into this territory came up with anything as authentic and affectionate as BF's effort. It will always be one of my favourite BF albums, made all the more enjoyable for being such a departure from his usual output. For the same reason I look forward enormously to whatever the maestro has up his sleeve this time.

I'm definately more interested in this Jazz offering whatever it may be ... Given the choice between a re issue of the first album with some added Peel sessions or....... something new ? .... It's a no brainer !!

As a casual observer of the site and an infrequent poster, I have to say there appears to be an obsession with the first 5 Roxy albums. I am old enough to fully remember the release of 'Roxy Music' and 'For Your Pleasure.' However, at 11 or 12, I was a bit to young to get it. I got into Roxy via. 'These Foolish Things.' Don't ask me how, but I did. I love the old Roxy stuff, especially when I see either Roxy or Bryan live. However at home, with a glass of red etc.. etc.. the later stuff hits the spot far better. Boys and Girls, Bete Noir and Mamouna, are all Roxy albums without the name. As I can see and here, Bryan is exercising his right to use the sound that he basically created. There will never be another' 'For Your Pleasure.' That would be ridiculous for men in their sixties. Bryan Ferry has, in my very humble opinion continued to expand and develop the wonderful sound that perhaps has its roots on Manifesto. Frantic too, had tracks that would easily sound at home on any Roxy album. So I for one am not too disappointed that they can't put aside their differences in order to reunite; would be great, but come on, they are all knockin' on a bit. Olympia also has tracks that would possibly make it onto a Roxy album. So what I'm trying to say in a very long winded fashion, is, it's as if they've always been here anyway. Oh and I for one am very glad of any new material from one of the most influential rock stars the UK has ever produced, be it Jazz or whatever. I don't want any more rehashed oldies! Love, Steve XX
