Ageing Flappers, "The Jazz Age" is now previewed on our hero's official site. The interpretation of "Don't Stop The Dance" is there in entirety and it's completely fantastic! I just love '20s Jazz and I can't wait to get my hands on the real thing. Bravo Bryan and thanks for pushing the boundaries. Regards, Windswept

I quite like it ! Not my type of music really, but good toe tapping stuff. I also heard that at one point, ATGB was shifting 10,000 copies a week, so it may be an era that Bryan wants to tap into. For artistic and financial reasons too !

I'm glad to hear that Windswept2 and IanS like The Jazz Age sound of DSTD. As for me, I listened to DSTD all the way through and can't say that I'm "jazzed" to hear the rest of the album.
BF and his Orchestra definitely work hard to recreate a "20s Sound" and for people who like ATGB this will likely be a big plus. For me, 20s jazz often sounds stilted - it doesn't swing - and (based upon DSTD) The Jazz Age stays true to this template.
I imagine that BF and his record company are hoping that the album will find a market where people will see it as a fun gift to give for Christmas and the holidays. It doesn't seem to be my cup of tea, but I hope it does well and keeps the way clear for more BF (and Roxy!) releases in the future.
Unfortunately, TJA seems to be BF's release for this holiday season and, although I might be surprised, it appears that the release of the Deluxe Edition of the first Roxy album is being pushed off until sometime in 2013. So it goes...

Ageing Hipsters, One of the things that I love about Ferry is the way his eclectic taste has educated me over the years and I know he's going right down my street with "The Jazz Age". A lifetime ago I remember listening to "Another Time, Another Place" and thinking that he'd lost the plot but there was something that kept drawing me back to it and eventually it went to my head in a big way. In fact, "These Foolish Things" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" set me off down many different tracks and I'm eternally grateful for that. I'm sure Ian's foot is going to be taping a whole lot more when the album comes out. Regards, Windswept

I like it, but I think it will not sell at all. It's very uncommercial. And these days, who likes this kind of music. I'm 30 but most people of my age...you know...sadly... On the other hand, if I still had my gran...this would have been a great christmas present for her. I love the cover art, I will have to buy the LP. Now do we start to talk about his next album..;what was up with todd terje recently...THAT sounded way cool to me.

When Ferry first mentioned this album as 'instrumental jazz' in an interview around July I was asked here if I had heard it and I described this album as 'jazz with a twist'. Now that the album's info is out was that a fair description 'jazz with a twist'?

J.O`B: "Now that the album's info is out was that a fair description 'jazz with a twist'?"
You may be right, but I think all jazz musicians would call jazz "music with a twist" in the first place, whatever they were playing.

Fellow Dilettantes, Now we have a taster, here's a prediction to dumbfound the doubting Thomases amongst you - it will sell and it will sell comparatively well! The reason being whilst the others are imitating, Ferry is innovating. ATGB proceeded a slew of "American Song Book" albums and TJA will do likewise. Regards, Windswept

I think J.O'B's label of "jazz with a twist" to be perfectly appropriate. It is a mainstream 20s Jazz sound, with the twist being that it is applied to songs that have never been interpreted in that idiom.
Re Windswept's prognostication that TJA will enjoy good sales, he may well be right. If it catches the public ear it could easily become an album that people want to share and listen to during the Holiday Season. The tricky part is that there are a lot of new records that want to fill that cultural space and BF and his record company will have to be creative in their marketing campaign. Given that BF does not actually play on the album it will be interesting to see if any live performances by the BF Orchestra are booked to promote the record.
