I love the sound from the previews - it's so quintessentially Ferry to release a Roaring Twenties-era album in the middle of a recession.

My only critique is that the musical structure and lyrics of the original songs are so ingrained in my mind that it's keeping me from listening to and appreciating these instrumentals as distinctly beautiful songs (which they are).

'Just Like You' is an early favorite.

Dear wockawocka,
You are so right. Trust Ferry to release a '20s Jazz album during a recession. Brilliant timing!
Regarding not being able to get the originals out of your head, you're correct but for me it intensifies my enjoyment of the interpretation.
You know were they're coming from and were they will go back to.
We are so lucky to have this guy and Colin Good - they are both magical musicians.
I don't want to wish my life away but roll on the 26th - I need this album!
Regards,
Windswept

On the evidence of the iTunes previews alone, I adore this album. This is a brilliant addition to my all time favourites. Such a great twist. :D

After listening to the tracks on Soundcloud & the iTunes previews I am really looking forward to hearing the full album. I am drawn to the slower, moody tracks at present but need to hear the full versions.

I suspect this may do a lot better than some people are predicting, perhaps it might take Bryan into other areas and gain some new fans.

Fellow Latharios & would be Sirens,
Earlier in this thread I proposed a tour of Art Deco venues to celebrate TJA with a set list largely drawn from the new album and ATGB.
For me, this would be the optimum scenario but if this doesn't past muster, what about a short residency for the BFO at Ronnie Scotts?
I saw Booker T there a couple of months ago and it's still a great venue.
If our hero adopted this idea he could offer the members of this site advanced tickets and reward us with a small after party!
Good or bad idea?
Regards,
Windswept

Great idea ! Ronnie Scotts is a great intimate venue .And the sound is superb. Even Rolling Stones drummer,Charlie Watts and his Jazz Orchestra played there for not much money, because of his love for Jazz. Would Bryan do it ? For not much money ? Or is the cash more important ?

Lovely idea Windswept, Sadly I doubt it will happen, not if its all about the money.
However if this does happen, then count me in. I'll be there like a moth to a flame.....I can also see room for a shopping spree in this plan, and everyone goes home happy.

:D

Cher Helen,
I remain a hopeless romantic and am in denial that it can only be about financial gain.
That said, maybe I'm the last one standing?

Ws2:
I think a Ronnie Scott's gig for the BFO is not beyond the realm of possibility. An extended tour of small/modest-sized halls doesn't seem to make much financial sense for BF and his Orchestra. But they need to generate publicity for the album and an appearance at RS could be a good way to make news. The money to be made wouldn't be in ticket sales per se, but rather in raising awareness and getting people into a mind-set to buy the album.

Who knows what will happen, but playing RS is not a crazy idea.

I am sure the BFO would go down well at The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival :)
