The Brits no longer have an outstanding contribution award so it's hard to see how Roxy will ever be recognised there. Absurd that when there was such an award, they were not a recipient but then any prestige attached to it was cheapened long ago when they gave it to acts like The Spice Girls. Makes you think Roxy are better off not being recognised by them.

I agree this isn't the best pic of BF - I blame the photographer for catching a millisecond when he wasn't at his best! Seriously though, I've always thought Bryan looked rather uncomfortable and nervous in situations like this. Before an audience singing he is supremely assured but ask him to deliver some sort of speech or read from an autocue and he seems out of his comfort zone. Still, good for him that he did it. At least it was just about the night's most prestigious award and the recipient was (untypically) deserving.

I agree, I think Bryan seemed to look very nervous which is reflected in any of the photos I have seen from the night.

It seems that Bryan Ferry is considered prestigious enough to present the main award of the night, introducing him as a "Great British Icon" but not good enough to have ever received one himself or with Roxy Music.

Perhaps the OA award has only been "rested" once again and they will bring it out when they like! It first happened in 2011, they brought it back last year when they awarded it to Blur and then rested again this year.

I fear that the time has now passed for Roxy/Ferry to be a recipient. As UKRichard has said, the prestige attached to it has long since been diluted. Back in 2000 was the point where it could and should have been awarded to Roxy/Ferry. BF was high profile again since the release of ATGB in 1999 but no, it was awarded to The Spice Girls

I think 'Flesh & Blood' was one of the nominees for best album at a televised awards program (not the Brits) in 1981?, but inevitably lost out to 'the Police'.

Can anyone else recall Roxy/Ferry ever being nominated in any category at the Brit Awards?

I know Bryan presented Eno with one of his best British producer awards in 1994 - Eno's other award was in 1996.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of a now-totally-devalued Brit award. Ferry/Roxy has won a number of far more heavyweight prizes, e.g. Ivor Novello, BMI, Q magazine, a CBE!

I think he probably was quite nervous presenting the award, but still managed to look pretty cool strolling on to the LST backing. Like UKRichard said, good for him for doing it (might just have encouraged the odd youngster to try out an altogether higher calibre of pop music!).

I think that sounds like the Nationwide Rock & Pop Awards. I remember watching back then when things were less slick!

I think The Brits used to go by the name of British Rock & Pop Awards years ago but there are no shows listed for the years between 1977 and 1982.

Edit:They were the BPI awards prior to the change to The Brits.

You are completely correct, a trawl through Windswept's archives would produce some howlers. Albeit, unlike our hero, I have the benefit of being able to edit my own photographic back catalogue. That withstanding, Mrs.Windswept has her own collection of pearlers that she produces whenever she feels I need grounding.
Personally I would kiss and offer large sums of money if anybody ever compared me to Geordie's favourite son.
