My thanks to India for posting the link and to BF for belatedly hipping me to the beast of a guitar player which lurks within Prince! If you'd played me the audio (from the Youtube clip BF recommended) as a blindfold test, never in a million years would I have come up with Prince's name! I was born marginally too late to fully appreciate the impact of The Beatles (and would probably have preferred the early Stones stuff anyway, due to it's more obvious blues roots...) and have never been a huge fan of their music; the only real exception has always been While My Guitar Gently Weeps and the Prince clip reinforces its position as my clear favourite.

Really good read. I don't think I've ever seen a Bryan's Favourite Albums list before. Quite surprised to see that he feels that his version of Otis Redding's "That's How Strong My Love Is "' is one of his best covers. I thought it was one of his worst !

Everything is understandable except that horrible cover with the cat - never heard about the band - and BF`s admiration for Prince.

Hi, hope everyone and all are well. Re-Bryan's album choice, and his mention of Prince, or the artist formally known as. I have always been a great fan of Prince, and make no apology for that, at all. The guy is a genius. Whilst laid up last week, a docu about him was aired by BBC 4. He speaks very rarely, and in the documentary, it was left to former band members, ex-managers, and the like to paint the picture. His ex-girlfriend stated that in his formative years within the music industry, he, and I quote, "wen't to sleep listening to Roxy Music, and woke up listening to Roxy Music". I mentioned this to our good friend in Inverness this morning, after serving toast, and it would appear that there is indeed a strong connection/mutaul admiration between them both. I have recognised the disco/dance connection with Ferry for a long time, rightly or not, the Chic connection, to mention but one. The re-mixes of late, for me, are a breath of fresh air, and I honestly think Bryan loves doing them. Just an opinion.
How and ever, now that we are back to fighting fit? red cross parcel's on the way this week. Love to all. G x.

Prince is a master. Period. I was lucky to witness the Sign of the Times tour, starting with that eponymous track: dark, sinister, brilliant. Few have ever matched that for me. Yes, there are shades (understatement ) of James Brown and t-Rex (yep, I'm not kidding ) in his work - and what's not to like in that? Prince may have sometimes splurged streams of half finished consciousness onto the public, but he's also generated an enormous amount of good stuff. And he's a true great guitar player, and ground breaking performer. I'm surprised that more Roxy fans don't get his combo of camp, quality and darkness. "now he's doing horse...it's June". Go look it up. End of sermon. PS. He also covered More than This on one of his tours as an homage...sorry, I can't ind a link to that one.

Hipsters, This is an interesting exercise, we should all try it. Here's Windswept's: Age 5 (1958) — "Buddy Holly by Buddy Holly" was my first musical memory. Mum loved him and "Peggy Sue" was the standout track. Simply brilliant and sad that he died so young. Still play him to this day. Age 10 (1963) — "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" by Bob Dylan was introduced to me by a great, innovative music teacher at a God awful boarding school I'd been shipped off to. '63 was the year of The Beatles but the teacher's influence was great and he persuaded me that Bob was king. So many iconic tracks on this but for me, the standout is "Masters of War". Cool cover too. Bob looked hip. Age 15 (1968) — "The Dock of The Bay" by Otis Redding. The year before I'd been to see the Stax/Volt review with my first ever girl friend (thank you Rosie) and it sent us all soul crazy. This album was released after his death and the track I love is "Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out". Age 20 (1973) — "These Foolish Things" by Bryan Ferry. It could have been "For Your Pleasure" or "Stranded" but this one just blew me away. The track selections are just so eclectic and brilliant. Loved all the songs but the title is the standout. Age 25 (1978) — "The Kick Inside" by Kate Bush. I love this woman to death and this album is beautiful. Standout track is "The Man With The Child In His Eyes". Age 30 (1983) — "Let's Dance" by David Bowie. With one or two Ferry exceptions I did find the '80s a veritable musical wasteland. That said, the biggest Bryan fan did come out with a good one. Best track; "Cat People". Age 35 (1988)-"The Spirit of Eden" by Talk Talk. Fabulous band. Hugely influenced by Roxy but true originals in their own right.Haunting music. Best track; "Rainbow". Age 40 (1993) — "Taxi" by the man - what else? Always loved his interpretations. Best track; "All Tomorrow's Parties". Age 45 (1998) — "White Ladder" by David Gray. We were living in Copenhagen when this was released and the Danes took to this guy big time. Best track; "Please Forgive Me". Age 50 (2003) — "You Are Free" by Cat Power. I was living and working in NYC when this came out and I discovered CP through a gig she did at Joe's Pub. She is a fabulous artist and if she can hold it together I think her best is still to come. Standout track;"I Don't Blame You". Age 55 (2008) — "The Seldom Seen Kid" by Elbow. We were still living in the states and my youngest son introduced me to this on one of his visits. Loved it to bits. Favourite song is "The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver". Age 60 (2013) - Early days and hopefully our hero will come up with something. That withstanding, the winner thus fare will be difficult to better. It is "Let It All In" by I Am Klute. A great Manchester band with a singer, songwriter to rival John Lennon. This album is produced by Elbow and is quite sublime. Best track is "These Days Are Mine" - I just adore the harmonica. Interesting to reflect on life through music.Enjoy, regards, Windswept.

Fantastic insight, and further to that, a great post! You must be a Geordie. Here's hoping, at some point during the forth-coming tour, we can find a central point that suits all and make a night or three out of it. I'm doing Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gateshead, hopefully the R.A.H., and if Man U, are at home the weekend he is there, Manchester. Joined the credit union for the sole purpose.

Cher Sadie's boyfriend, Thanks for the kind words - I enjoyed doing it. And they said it wouldn't last! I'd love to hook up with yourself and other like dilettantes on the occasion of AEWBF. I'm going to RAH and Brighton. Albeit Mrs.Windswept doesn't know that she's going to the latter just yet. I'll be breaking it to her in a creative way nearer the time. Maybe the RAH could be the one? Let me know nearer the time and I'll be there. Regards, Windswept.
