Have been playing the full album a lot, lately. Took the time earlier to go to youtbe, and in particular to see the comments about the title track. It would seem to be much loved. I recall the lapse in time between the Roxy Music re-union being made public, and the release of the album. What would they sound like? For me, he is at his wordsmith's best on the title track. I remember playing the album the day it was released, and couldn't get past Manifesto. Also have a really soft spot for "Spin Me Round".
Just when we wern't looking. I'm for a life around the corner.
Into friendship and plain sailing also. Check the lyrics once again whan you get the time. The re-vamp of Manifesto at the back of "Over You"? Two different songs, but love them both Awesome. x

A patchy album overall for me, but when it's good it's very good....
Still can't take to "Trash" but the title track remains one of my all-time Roxy/Ferry favourites. A shame that the re-united Roxy seemed to have no inclination to play it live even on the 2011 FYP tour. And agree that "Spin Me Round" is an overlooked gem.

Nearly all of it is badly produced, which is a shame. Nevertheless, there is a load of great stuff on it. Manifesto is one of roxy's finest. Likewise Stronger. I like all of the East Side, and half of the West Side. Dance Away and My Little Girl leave me cold.

Cry Cry Cry is pretty mediocre, but Still Falls the Rain, Spin Me Round and Stronger through the Years are just brilliant. And the Title track? One of my top five Roxy songs.

To say Cry Cry Cry is mediocre is the best compliment I have ever heard about the song. What was he thinking about? I remember the reviews in the music press at the time from the then four big publications, and I recall it being intimated that the East Side and West Side were aimed at the European and American markets respectively. Still don't know if I'm in the East or the West, so didn't know what side to pay most attention to. I suppose it depends where you're posting from.

It's a strange album with an odd mix of songs. I love some of it and hate some of it too. Manifesto, Still Falls the Rain, Stronger through the years and Spin Me Round are great songs. Angle Eyes (original version) Aint that so, My Little Girl and Dance Away are ok. But Trash and Cry Cry Cry are awful. Dance Away was an important song for Roxy as the album wasn't selling that well until Dance Away was released as a single. Quickly followed by the re-recorded version of Angel Eyes. If the album didn't sell well, Roxy may have disbanded straight away. So,all bow down and resoect...err....Dance Away !

I don't "hate" anything RM does. I love all the songs on Manifesto that are hated here. Perhaps you can do better? "you're steppin' on holy ground" so "cry cry cry"!

note bry gets two costumes (both of which are sub-zero cool). i always liked this photoshoot. truly ueber-hip. PS I rather liked Cry Cry Cry (singing and words pretty good, and sense of humour present – the last time ever in a roxy song?). but mothing will ever get me to like my little girl that much. no, i cant do better... but that never stopped me from disliking stuff before!
