We were, and are, famous for it. They would go off stage, and, even before they leave, you can hear the chant "Roxy...Roxy...Roxy..."
In my case, at The Glasgow Apollo, we would look up from the stalls, to the Circle, then up to the Upper Circle, and witness the whole building shaking. And to be fair, that was not just for Roxy. All styles were served there, and catered for. I was lucky enough to be able to look back up from the stalls, to the circle's, a mere 7 times at a Roxy Music concert there. And I'm a novice. I know of people who witnessed the full 11 concerts. (Can anyone verify. 11 Roxy concerts at the Apollo) ?
Curiously, I met a great friend recently, from my school days, and got into conversation with him about the Apollo, and he mentioned, but i'd like this verified, and have no reason doubt him, but would like it verified, that he was at a Roxy concert, a Bowie concert, and a Lou Reed concert at The Apollo all in the same week in 1973. Any historian's amongst?
I digress. The point of my post is, at every Roxy concert I have been to, there's always these chants of "Roxy"... Has anyone else ever noticed, that at a solo Ferry concert, no one else knows what to chant? I have never heard a decent pre-encore chant at a solo Ferry concert.
I suppose in a perfect world, we would all love to chant Roxy... Roxy.. at any concert.

Cher Sadie's Boyfriend, You raise an important point. There is something really quite special about the chant and Roxy apart, I can't think of another band in history who's single monica could be chanted with such blood curdling sexually charged vigour — without the playground prefix of "we want ..." I don't know if it is uniquely a UK phenomena. I've been lucky enough to see the band in Frejus, NYC and Sydney and can't honestly remember if the cry came forth. I have a feeling it did in the States and France but I don't think it happened at 2011s Sydney gig - I might be wrong. Perhaps some Antipodean would be kind enough to confirm? In any event, I'm sure it's a sound that thousands would love to hear again at Glasgow's Apollo! Regards, Windswept Ps. Roxy is a strong brand and cinema chains aside it was the nick name given to a young lady that frequented a street corner near us in the '60s. Very charming she was but mother would not have approved. As they say, "All styles served here .."

Roxy played the Glasgow Apollo, or Green's Playhouse as it was known then, 40 years ago today, (Fri) 6th April 1973. I was listening to Roxy at the time but was too young (12) to know anything about concerts or go to a gig in Glasgow. Roxy played 14 nights at the Apollo, BF played 2.

Oh dear. 14 times. As a diehard Glaswegian Roxy Music fan, I'm pretty ashamed of myself. That means I was only there half the time! Disnae sound very loyal, does it?

I'm no historian SB but a quick look on Wiki shows that Bowie played the Apollo/Greens in January 73 and Lou Reed September 73. I love the Roxy chant, complete with claps of course!

Sadie's Boyfriend. For verification on Roxy, Bowie & Reed playing the same week in 73. Check out Glasgow Apollo website and click on Who Played When.

Speaking of memorable Roxy fan claps, the live version of Oh Yeah included on the 2001 Tour CD (recorded in Detroit) ends with wonderful audience hand claps providing percussion as the song quietly concludes.
Oh Yeah is one of the stand out tracks on the 2001 live CD...

Mr. Riff and Zappa, thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I refer to a post above where I mention a friend that mentioned about the 3 concerts in one week. Surely one year? Strangely, and the claps is becoming an issue here, the same guy told me, when we were young, way back in 1976, and he is in the music business, an aquantance of E.J. and another original band member, that, on Viva, the clapping before D.T.S. on side 2 was from the Glasgow Apollo. I honestly don't know. Only quoting what he was informed.

In those days they quite often played 2 or 3 nights in a row at the Apollo. At the time I usually could only afford to go to one of them. In 1980 I did manage both nights and one at Wembley in the same week. Love the Roxy chant pre encore. At the September 2001 show at the SECC I'm sure Bryan, Andy and Phil joined in with the clapping.

Jerry, September the 29th 2001. The night of my life. They were so polished by then. I think we were night 49 of that tour.
