After listening to a bunch of youtube clips from the two April in Germany gigs, I think that BF is planning to stick with the BF Orchestra for a long while to come - and not just to play 20s jazz.

In particular, I think that the sound of Move On Up points towards what the next BF vocal album could (will?) be. A collection of classic soul/R&B tunes (with maybe even a remake of Chain Reaction thrown in) that take full advantage of the lush big band sound that the BFO can provide. Move On Up sounds really really good and could be a centerpiece of a "Byran Ferry and the Bryan Ferry Orchestra" vocal album.

After listening to what these German concerts sound like, I think it will be a long time (maybe never) before Roxy Music goes on tour again...

Whilst it saddens me to say it, I think if this comes to pass it may be no bad thing. For me, the high water mark of Roxy live was 2001 and whilst 2011 was a great stroll down memory lane with an interesting set list, it didn't quite match up. My impression is that in some quarters of the band there was barely the will to see the 2011 tour through, let alone convene again many years down the line for whatever the next landmark is deemed to be.

Much as I dearly love them, I do think Roxy as a recording and performing band are behind us, but that's not to say we won't have more than ample opportunities to continue celebrating their magnificent legacy. But then, who knows....?

Here we go. There won't be any other Roxy Music "tie up" in any musical way. There is, if it helps placate, a strong personal connection between them all. Eno included. So, the friendship is on going.

Could I suggest that we all remember Roxy Music fondly. Lot's of us will forever do so, and leave it at that. It won't ever happen again, not as Roxy.

Try and think of what Ferry is doing at the present as a "new venture", if you like. It may appeal to you more. I am his staunchest opponent of his dis-banding of Roxy Music, however, I think his idea here, is cleverly right. In the next 18 months, there is a strong chance he could peak again, a-la F&B and Avalon, wordwide.

His choice of tour venues are sowing the seeds.

Clever. His peers will be watching closely from London, New York and occasionally, Celtic Park. Of that, there is no doubt.

My original post in this thread was not intended to offer a judgement (either one way or another) as to whether BF should ever get involved in another Roxy tour.

More simply, it was spurred by the recent German gigs and a realization that the musicians assembled for these gigs represent a formidable ensemble that BF can (will?) utilize on future recordings. In fact. I'll be surprised if he doesn't release a new album based around the sound that is evident in "Move On Up." And if so, his latest band will be performing with him through most of 2014, perhaps even longer.

The only downside to his latest ensemble is that it cannot be inexpensive to keep on the road. There are about a dozen highly talented people up on stage with him and that adds up to a sizable payroll...

Fellow Philanderers,
DJC makes a great point - BFO are so strong I'm sure they are going to be part of future projects and if "Move On Up" is a taster for the new album — bring it on!
Incidentally the 9" version of this from Mayfield's debut album "Curtis" was a firm favourite of the late, great, John Harker when he DJ'd at Sunderland's Annabel's nightclub in the early '70s. A venue often frequented by "The Taste Tarantula" when he was making pilgrimages home. It filled the dance floor like nothing else on earth!
Also in this thread and elsewhere, it's interesting how many aficionados consider the 2001 reunion to be Roxy's finest live moment.
Again, I couldn't agree more. I saw this outing at NYC's Madison Garden and everything was simply magical. The boys were obviously on a high and pleased to be in the city and the set list, production and line up were the best ever and I've never seen an American audience respond with such enthusiasm.
IMNSHO (in my not so humble opinion) I have long been of the opinion that the contribution of Colin Good and the multi-instrumentalists Julia Thornton and Lucy Wilkins were key to bringing a new frisson to the Roxy soup.
I hope I'm wrong but I'd eat my favourite Charvet knitted silk tie if they ever tour again. It may well become a case of Roxy never - BFO forever.
Regards,
Windswept

I thought I read that the next one was to be original material?

Gary - you did indeed, and maybe that's still on, but did you sufficiently factor in the usual 'smoke and mirrors'? It could just as easily be an album of covers from Rainbow (the kids TV series, not the Ritchie Blackmore variety).

Time will tell.

Given his ongoing writers block I think whatever albums he has left in him will be mixtures of originals and covers, he still got the remaining horoscope songs to get through having exhausted the alphaville songs.

The view of the threadstarter is bleak. Apparently, the view of the possibility of a "new Roxy album" has developed. If DCJ is right, it will be nothing less than a watershed in the history of BF, big time, and a recognition with a strong bittersweet taste. -The side project that became his second career peak!!! -Sounds like a drama queen studying the tea leaves, to me...
