'The Great Gatsby' has opened to a bigger than expected box office of $51.5 million over the first 3 days. http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3684&p=.htm Meanwhile 'The Jazz Age' is over 200 days in the Amazon jazz chart.
Gatsby is definitely not a flop/disaster and it will prove to be a significant financial success for its producer and film company. But it is not a Mega-hit like Ironman 3, a film that will easily exceed a worldwide box office of $1 Billion.
That said, the producer and investors in Gatsby have plenty to be happy about after a successful opening US weekend. I'm predicting a worldwide cum for Gatsby of about $400 million... That wouldn't be too shabby methinks.
