Elegantly Ageing Hipsters,
Loved this version except for the drum count in.
The song starts with a great guitar riff and so it should remain. Particularly as this dramatises the rhythm section when they start playing — albeit the bass player looked like he tuned his instrument for most of the track!
Visually I do think there's work to do.
I am noticing is that the positioning of the players is making the stage look quite uneven. You have the BFO bunched together on the right and the left looks quite sparse.
I can understand why he's done this. He clearly wants the BFO to have the lime light particularly with TJA being the featured album and with the band playing solo on some tracks.
That said, I do think he needs to sex it up a bit and push the 20s theme by bringing on the flappers and having some Paul Colin —visuals as a back-drop. Isaac did some great stuff for FYP & Olympia.
Last but by no means least the jacket but I think I've already mentioned this .........
Regards,
Windswept

I'm a little worried about Windswept. He seems a bit out of sorts as he questions some of the decisions made by Said Hero in the presentation of SOB... I hope he's OK.

CO is a good drummer, but her muscular "exuberance" seems a bit out of place visually. It seems to me that TGPT would fit nicely into this ensemble. But I am a PT fan and not exactly unbiased in my perspective

I'm with you DC regarding your thoughts about Paul but regrettably I can't see BF using Paul again now. He hasn't been the nominated tour drummer since Frantic in 2002/3 although has been replacement drummer for part of the Olympia for whatever reason(s). With Paul playing with Lindisfarne it suggests to me that there is nothing remotely on the radar.
About CO, I find the "exuberance" she displays a little unnecessary and a little off putting after Paul's calm and understated style......

:D

And since then, and reading some of the more recent posts in this thread, I think what I really liked about this performance was the "exuberance" of the drummer, the singers and ollie. Whilst OT delivers brilliance as his standard quality level, the movement of the women (& cool spectacles of one of them) made a change, which I still rather like.

Cher DJC,
Worry not - I'm in the pink!
Regarding 'The Mystery Of The Ever Changing Drummer' I too am a little confused but have a slightly different perspective.
I can't understand why we don't have John Sutton doing double duty. He made a great fist of the rock stuff on the ATGB tour and is a fabulous all round percussionist with a really deft touch. By saving on a drummer maybe our hero could get us some strings and we'd have a turbo charged ATGB outfit back in business!
I am a huge TGPT fan but IMNSHO it is more important to have somebody who is simpatico with TBFO and Monsieur Sutton is that cat!
Regards,
Windswept
Ps. I don't know the economic equation but maybe we could have some Flappers as well as the strings?
