Great shout, Smudge

I had completely forgotten about this gem of a song. I sold all of my vinyl in mid '80s as we were newlyweds and this was my great sacrifice to help fund a new kitchen - so quite honourable motivation on my part. It did earn me some extra TLC at the time which helped soften the blow (plus CDs were taking over and vinyl seemed so "yesterday" although I never admitted that to Lady Avondale as that would have tarnished my "sacrifice") - so haven't heard it for 30 years.

I agree that it would be a splendid addition to the setlist for the current tour. Why has it been allowed to linger in the dungeons for so long though? I am not an avid completist and it really doesn't bother me if there is some mediocre track that was released in some far corner of the world for some reason or another that I don't have, but for something of this quality to be essentially ignored over all of these years is bordering on criminal.

The Mamouna E.P. is the one on the bottom right of the picture on this page:

It is now deleted but pops up on EBAY from time to time.

This looks expensive but I paid about £20 for mine in 1995 when it came out.

The Mamouna EP was not about the Mamouna album but the Mamouna single release.

John

Transaction completed and delivery eagerly awaited. My first ever EBAY purchase (albeit through my son's account) so hopefully it will prove to be a good experience

Thanks again

Always one of my favourite tracks and unlike anything else Bryan has sung in my opinion. His voice sounds very natural here. It's a really beautiful song and performance. All that said I haven't listened to it for a long time so was very pleasantly surprised when it popped up randomly on shuffle mode last weekend. I think having this on tour is probably way too much to expect (I'd settle for a return to the setlists from earlier in the summer) but one can dream. The ups and downs we share.

Most Elegant of Hipsters,
I am afraid that this missive will expose me as the ne'er-do-well, wastrel, impostor, unworthy, dilettante that I really am but I have to confess to never having heard "As The World Turns".
This huge gap in my education is driving me insane — particularly with renowned Roxologists raving about it.
I am forever humbled by this experience and am reminded that excellence is a journey not a destination!
If any of you third dan Ferryistas out there can put me out of my agony can you please contact me privately.
Regards,
Windswept.

Check your PM's sir!

Seconded on all counts. It'd be great to hear a version of it live. But Fripp is key to that version. A guest contribution one night would be magic. I'd also love a rearrangement using the horns perhaps....

It sure doesn't sound much like the rest of the tracks on Siren...

This is not a great BF vocal performance IMHO. It sounds forced, not fluid (and a bit raspy but maybe that is a particular of the youtube clip).

The production is also rather cloying and Fripp's solo almost sounds like a parody of a Fripp solo.

Well, now that I've gotten all the negativity out of my system, I will admit that the EJ's piano is quite evocative. I think I would enjoy listening to just a solo track of the piano! Just as I would enjoy a stripped down version of These Foolish Things with just EJ's piano and BF's vocal.

So this leads me to wonder, what happened between EJ and BF that they went their separate ways after Siren/Let's Stick Together" It was a split so wide that it's hard to imagine that they spent an enormous amount time together touring and recording '73-'76. What happened?

:D
So it's not your favourite DCJ???!

For me, this was the first track where Bry dropped the camp from his vocal. I'm in two minds on that. But, it was actually a crucial moment. The in ur mind stuff became stylised again, but ATWT (got to get those initials in the correct order) was the first "naked" vocal.

As for the solo from the great Fripppp. C'mon! Did you ever get to see the League of Gentlemen? (i thought they were great, quintessential Robbo, btw) Half the solos were like this, and i mean that as a compliment. Love it.

I still love this track :)

PS what a great forum! We can actually debate the merits / demerits of ATWT, surely one of the most obscure tracks. Great to have people with similar interests coming together; what did we do before the www?
