A vocal recording of Love Is The Drug with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra will be released as a download single on 9th September. There are some promo copies available. The track list includes the vocal version (used on The Great Gatsby) and the instumental version of that track as well as a 2013 DJ remix of a 1920's re-recording of the original 1975 Roxy Music classic.

Not me really but a few people have e-mailed this site asking where they can get a copy of the CD single.

It is a promo copy there won't be an actual CD release just a download.

Now on the BBC Radio 2 Playlist (albeit 'C' at the moment).

This news is, of course, of interest to all of us obsessive/compulsive collectors!

I know you put a lot of time, effort & money into VRM, John; don't be discouraged by the odd member who hasn't posted a positive word in living memory! ;)

I interpret JJ's post not as a complaint about JO'B/VRM, but as a commentary about BF and his longstanding fixation with milking The Catalog in every way possible. My guess is that the new "release" of the jazz version of LITD is tied to the impending DVD release of The Great Gatsby. Of course, his Brit Tour is on the horizon and maybe the release is tied to that as well...

I can't believe for a minute the decision to release a download single that will undoubtedly sell in very small numbers and therefore yield little if anything by way of income is anything whatsoever to do with BF or is him 'milking the catalogue'. This will surely be a record company decision to generate interest in the other events cited and not least to tie in with BF's imminent proms performance. I can't see it getting meaningful airplay anywhere outside the hallowed studios of Radio 2, so I think this is all tied in with this BBC event.

UKR:
I didn't mean to offend, but I think the the entire The Jazz Age project essentially constitutes yet one more instance of BF Milking the Catalogue. That said, I like TJA and have enjoyed the cd many many times (truth be told I do usually skip the first track - Do the Strand - but from there on out it is pleasure to listen to)

It's all about Rights Management and it's something he and his record company/publisher were able to skillfully exploit in terms of The Great Gatsby. I don't think they plan/intend to sell many cd-singles of the latest version of LITD, but they see the money/business lying in the realm of digital downloads, and they have indicated previously that TJA was a money-maker in terms of downloads.

Mes Amis,
There comes a point when any self-respecting Ferryista has to spring to the defence of the realm - for "The Jazz Age" to be described as "milking the catalogue" is simply beyond the pale!
A more original and creative project it would be difficult to imagine and one that has brought a huge amount of entertainment and not a little inspiration and education to many.
When the majority of artists of his generation are resting on their laurels it is so refreshing to see our hero innovating and taking risks to such great effect.
We are fortunate enough to have a national treasure who's career that has spanned forty years and who has twenty-two studio works of extreme creativity to his credit. For him to be endlessly accused of cynical financial manipulation is just bizarre. Not all is about money — excellence at this level is created by a single minded focus on a great idea and the rest just follows.
Soon we will be all out partying at another set of great, original shows. We should celebrate this instead of propagating dogma.
There, I feel better!
Regards,
Windswept.
