According to an interview with Jobson at the time, Fripps solo was originally a french horn not guitar, he was surprised to hear the guitar solo on the finished take.

When I asked EJ online about the Roxy re-union in 2001 and what would he have done if he had been asked to re-join he answered...

" Hard to answer whether or not I would have accepted a Roxy tour offer in 2001. I may have been open to it if it was to be as an equal member, however, it is musically not really the optimum environment for me, and—knowing that—they probably wouldn't have asked".

This is one of the all-time fascinating threads. I've learnt a lot about EJ/RM and the history of ATWT.
A few pre-web years ago (showing my age), the thought of talking to anyone who even knew about ATWT, let alone a whole bunch of people who have opinions on it, would have blown my mind. Wonderful. The possibilities are endless. Anyone for sultanesque, South Downs, The Numberer, Love War, Your Love has Died, Four Letter Love?

Anyway, I agree, dear DCJ, that the fade out of Robbo's solo on ATWT was a bit rough....so in that respect it's a bit proto. But the juxtapositions of the solo, strings, 60s soundtrack vibe and de-camped vocals still do it for me :)

Lovely thread - ATWT was always somewhat of a favourite of mine - reminds me a lot of Song for Europe particularly the intro. Nice info about it being started during the Siren sessions - fascinating.

EJ is a real muso and whilst it would have been great to see him on stage with the rest in 2001 I can understand his position - musically he was in a different place to the rest of the bad I think. She Sells, with its tempo changes, is so unlike standard Roxy but I love it

One piece of Roxy Musicology I would love to see would be a list of when/what sessions songs were written and first worked on and what happened to them - that may give us an insight into the Roxy/Ferry creative process.

EG

Psalm (Ferry) - written Dec 1970 - sessions done for RM and FYP - released on Stranded (I've made some of that up)

I know its a big piece of work but I would happily spend a few days at BFs studio John.
