BF's unreleased albums, Alphaville & Horoscope, have been in circulation as bootlegs for some years.

The Youtube clips appear to be the former (albeit aimed at a broader audience now), but hopefully someone will post here if they're different versions to the already widely circulated bootlegs...

Debauched & Forever Ageing Hipsters,
This is very interesting.
I'm not one of these bootleg types. I always tend to prefer the finished item and I tend to defer to the artist knowing best.
That said, this Alphaville story is intriguing.
The Frantic 'San Simeon' version is clearly more polished but there are elements of the posted cut that are intriguing - I love the Jazz backing track, it's really haunting and although it all has the feel of a bit of a work in progress, I'm not sure that our hero came out with the best possible outcome with the official release. Hush my mouth, but it could have been better.
The intriguing lyrics to this song inspired me to visit Hearst Castle - it's well worth the ticket if you are ever in Southern California - touring it you know were the words came from. You can feel the parties they had in that place!
Regards,
Windswept.

I've always thought that alphaville is the darker twin to frantic and I've played alphaville far more than frantic over the years, what is interesting is how the songs changed (evolved?) from one to the other especially fool for love which is excellent in its alphaville guise. All the tracks have now been released other than love war which had its mid section lifted out into the frantic version of FFL. There's still a few horoscope tracks to be re-visited.

Nice imagery wrighta.
For me, alphaville is indeed the darker twin. And I love it....way more than frantic. One of my favourite ever BF (even Roxy) albums. Truly magnificent. Then it got compromised, mellowed, smoothed, over-muscianed. Dear old Colin g helped ruin alphaville imnsho. Not his fault....it was his "task", his "mission", if you will. BF, the maestro, was driving that, I believe. It may be his (ie BF's) curse and blessing..this infinite tinkering . The Stewart / BF combo produced some great, relatively spontaneous material. Some of the best ever.
Not one single track on alphaville improved imnsho by the time it became franticked.

PS I recall way back, when a list of alphaville songs was released, that one was called "Frantic". It never surfaced on Alphavile. Then, later, on Tender is the Night, that Frantic word appeared again...was that the same song. John O'B ....any view?

Mes Amis,
Yet again I'm inspired by the scribes in this hallowed cyber hall.
I've always imagined this bootleg business to be the equivalent of taking an Anderson & Sheppard suit home after the second fitting but maybe I'm wrong and there is something to this 'Worzel Gummidge' bootleg school of tailoring.
In any event, comments like; "darker twin to Frantic'' certainly spark my interest and I'd love to hear the "Alphaville" album in its
entirety.
Now, without getting involved in the musical version of "Breaking Bad", can any of you ne'er-do-wells out there tell me how I might obtain a copy?
Regards,
Windswept

What I remember from the time of the Frantic album release, BF was quoted saying somethig like, it was a 'Frantic' time at the end of the album to get everything ready but went on to say there was a 'lyric' left over called Frantic that he hadn't used that may be used in the future as a song on another album.

Alphaville was available on eBay a week or so back along with Horoscope, I would recommend anyone to get at least alphaville as it really is a lost gem. I have a feeling that the version of nobody loves me alphaville isn't finished as BF seems to fudge some of the lyrics halfway through. Most of the tracks have also appeared on youtube of late.

Now, I thought the point is that these are bootleg recordings and can be talked about and alluded to but not put on YouTube, eBay or shared in any other way. Isn't there a breach of copyright on the Noise website?

Somehow I lost touch with bootlegs when vinyl lost out to cds. While not encouraging any fellow VRM members to attract undue attention from the authorities, if anybody can give me some guidance on how to source them then it would be much appreciated.
