Was listening this morning to my, and London's favourite radio station, "Magic", and "All Of My Heart" by the above was played Hadn't heard it for years and it reminded me how good an album "Lexicon Of Love" was. I really liked ABC, and Martin Fry. I remember at the time, the music press referring to them as "a poor man's Roxy Music" and Fry, as wearing Bryan's discarded Tux! A bit unfair? I have always thought the period 1982-1985 as my favourite music period outwith the seventies. The bands, Japan, Human League, OMD, The Duranies, and many of their contemporaries, (OMG!, not OMD, as I write this, Hungry like the wolf just came on! Spooky) Truly great period for music, some great disco classics as well. 12" versions of "Body Talk" , "Just An Illussion". Phew! I bought "Dare" the same day as "Lexicon". Favourite 12"s were "Love Action/Hard Times", "Tainted Love/Baby Baby", "Life In Tokyo", to mention but a few. Thoughts? Yazoo Only You.

It was great, just great. Just think of Duran Duran`s "Girls On Film"! - Visage`s "Fade To Grey"! Donna Summer`s "Hot Stuff", the version with the Ho-, Ho-, Ho-, Ho-ooot included. What a pity that Roxy didn`t milk this movement any further! Maybe it wasn`t a great period for albums. Madonna notoriously had only a couple of strong songs and the rest was fillers. At least the music business moved forward, like it had done since Elvis and beyond.

The first half of the 80s was a great time for music and the bands already mentioned were just right for the time and it was fun still, not overly commercialised. I'd add Altered Images to the list.

Re albums. Some of the biggest ever sellers came out in the mid 80s, M Jackson (Thriller/Bad), Dire Straits (Brothers In Arms), Springsteen (Born In The USA) and U2 (The Joshua Tree).

The 90s had some awful dance music and with a few exceptions, was IMO the worst decade ever for music.

An Aussie schoolfriend of mine went out briefly with Clare Grogan whilst he was living in London. I remember him telling me that she would go to clubs with him wearing a mini and nothing underneath. She would dance, high kick and they would fall about giggling...

The early 80s were a great time for music. Roxy's The Same Old Scene must surely have been their most influential song on the sounds of bands like Duran Duran, Ultravox, ABC etc. And the intro sounds similar to Blondie's Heart Of Glass.

Sadies Boyfriend - All those top tunes from the early eighties you mentioned remind me of when I first moved to London. Good times to be in London and the clubs. Can remember going to Steve Strange's Legends club back then .

Everyone seemed so happy and carefree back then in those days. Song Lyrics were uncomplicated and not at all profound. 90's music was a bit dire I thought.
