The Players were a band formed by Andy Mackay to record an album of traditional Christmas melodies. The album was first released by Rykodisc in 1988 and was re-released in 1996 by Expression records with a shorter track listing and new sleeve design.
Dropped from the re-issue were "While Shepherds Watched", "Little Jesus Sweetly Sleeps", "The First Noel", "Once In Royal David's City", "O Come,O Come Emmanuel" and "The Holly And The Ivy" only appeared once.
