Ferry good for Peter

By Carmel Thomason

OLD smoothie Bryan Ferry proved that he's still got what it takes to get the town talking when he swapped his usual rock venues for a garden marquee.

The Roxy Music singer wowed guests when he was booked as the surprise act for businessman Peter Donnelly's 50th birthday bash in Bowden.

In an hour-and-a-half set, Ferry played Roxy favourites, Jealous Guy and Avalon as well as material from his solo career.

One guest told the M.E.N.: "There had been all kinds of rumours that it was Bryan Adams or Chris Rea.

"I don't think that anyone could really believe it.

"Everyone there was stunned when he came on stage. To have Bryan Ferry playing in your garden is just amazing.

"It was a brilliant atmosphere. Peter didn't spare any expense. It must be the biggest private party Cheshire has seen for more than 20 years, and I can't see anyone beating it to be honest.

"They'll certainly be talking about it for a long time."

Peter, boss of clothing retailer, Eisenegger, invited about 300 family and friends to join him for the do, which included a laser light show and entertainment from New York jazz musician, Jerome, and DJ Mark B, who has worked with J-Lo and Madonna.

And the M.E.N. were told that, even with all the excitement, his neighbours weren't forgotten in the celebrations.

To avoid them being disturbed, Peter offered free accommodation in a hotel of their choice on the night of the party to everyone who lives immediately around him, and many were sent huge bouquets of flowers for "putting-up" with Ferry's melodies.
