Fans versus Toronto Music Critics...3-0 (so far)
16 July 2001

Our Thanks go to John Colquhoun who sent us his review of the Toronto
concert in a response to what he read (and sent us)in the Toronto Star.

I saw a very energetic Bryan who connected with the audience trying to
bring the "Upper Bowl contingent" into the show.....normally Roxy/Bryan
play the classic "Massey Hall" venue in Toronto......classic architecture
& intimate setting for 2,500......although Roxy played the Maple Leaf
gardens in 1982...16,000-17,000.seats (due to the success of Avalon)...
the Air Canada Centre was cut in half so it had about 7000-7500
attendees....if not a sell -out....very very close.......the band
worked their asses off......from the opener of re/make(the sound was
muddy...Paul Thompson & Zev Katz were cranked....Andy's solo quite frankly
was missed not brought out by the technicians......the audience (writer excluded)
were there for the later material and slowly warmed to the band, although
Phil, Chris, Lucy & Andy wowed the crowd with some excellent solo work.....
Phil...blew me away on Ladytron....he cooked......it wasn't until half
way through the show the level of the crowds reciprocity "picked up".....
due to more familiar Roxy material.....Bryan was in good voice....
into the show.....seemed more energetic...lots of style and plenty of
substance......a well thought out show....
excellent lighting....a good mix...sure it hurts to have Mother of Pearl
cut......7,000 people into Dance Away or 500 of us into Mother of Pearl.....
I can't blame the band for playing for it's audience....at $90.00 per
ticket ....... they gave it all......"would you walk out in style"???........
.......they did.......
