ROXY MUSIC’S PHIL MANZANERA SAMPLED BY KANYE WEST/JAY Z FOR NEW ALBUM.
Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera has had his guitar riff from K – Scope, his 1978 solo album, used by Kanye West and Jay-Z as the basis for the track 'No Church in The Wild' the first track on their new album, Watch the Throne, released on 8 August 2011.
Phil Manzanera:
“ I never saw this coming and I’m delighted. When I was first contacted about who wanted to use the riff, I did wonder if it was some sort of hoax…as the rapworld and my music are not natural bedfellows, but this great track has proved otherwise.”
Phil Manzanera and Friends are performing at the International Guitar Festival, Liverpool, on 12 November. His ‘Friends’ are Roxy’s drummer Paul Thompson, and longtime Pink Floyd players, bassist Guy Pratt and keyboard player, Jon Carin.
